Ditto on Varget (26.2 gr.)and the .223 with 62 Barnes, very accurate and a deadly hog load. Also found a 62 grain Hornady HP sold in bulk by Midsouth that shoots even a little tighter groups than the Barnes at less than 10 cents each. My .308 40X shoots very excellent groups with Varget using Hornady 178 BTHP, Sierra 168 MK, and Hornady SST 165, all with 44 grains Varget. I used to own a 6.5 Creedmoor that shot best with Varget and 120 Barnes or 123 Scenar.

I've noticed over the winter while perusing my logbooks that Varget and IMR 4320 are nearly twins. It's almost as if Varget is the "Extreme" version of IMR 4320. At least in .308 Winchester and in .35 Whelen where I noticed the trend. For the same charge weights velocities were quite close, like within what one would expect in a single powders lot to lot variation, and what I really noticed was IMR 4320 tended to be more accurate. I wished I had noticed it a few years back when Varget was unobtanium. I've picked up an 8 pounder of IMR 4320 since and am happy as can be. Any one else notice this parallel? Or was this common knowledge I just was not hip to?
