I am considering an HTG with Edge fill for a Mt Rifle project I am working on. Barrel is a #1 contour. Will this work or would the HTG just be to bulky for this barrel setup? If anyone has pictures of a similar setup handy Id be interested in seeing them.

The HTG is WAY too much stock for a #1 contour.

Yeah the htg has a huge forarm. I don't think you would be happy with it at all for what you want to do.
I'd look at the mountain rifle and compact/hunters edge

This is a more typical barrel profile for that stock:

The htg is my favorite McMillan stock, but a #1 would look out of place in it. A #2b or # 3 is about as small as you can go and look good.

I'd say more like a #5 on the small side.

I run a #5 in my HTG and I think anything smaller would look out of place

I've got a Rem varmint contour in mine. I wouldn't go any smaller than that in the HTG.

Yeah the htg can take a big barrel. The other thing is they are pretty bad with recoil from the bench. It makes an 8.25 # 270 feel like a 7.5 # 300 mag. I would look at the Remington classic model

#1 contour belongs in a Mtn rifle pattern or KS pattern.

TI in a McMillan KS, probably my favorite style stock.

Agreed.....or a Classic, which is my all-a-round-choice......

However, from a numbers perspective, the HTG's forend is only .125" (1/8th") wider at the front stud over a Classic.

What barrel length? I have the same stock and am getting a m700 .243ai put together with a M40 barrel.

HTG with a #4 or 4.5 contour if I remember correctly.
This rifle balances and points perfectly for me.
.308 Win - 21" barrel
