I sold my Ruger MK I 22 and 3 screw Blackhawk 357 about 30 years ago. Been running nothing but long guns since. I've been talking about getting either a 45 colt or 1911 the last few months, just hadn't done anything about it. I finally retired last week at 64 and have been looking around for a project to keep me away from the honey do's. Lo and Behold, my kids took the the decision away from me, gifting me with a Sig Sauer 1911 Target 45. Can't believe they spent that much on the old guy, but maybe they were just feeling sorry for their mother. I don't know that much about the 1911s, do know some of the purists don't like the Sig because of the external extractor but that doesn't bother me, more interested in accuracy and reliability. Accuracy will take a backseat for a while till I can learn to shoot a handgun again. So far It's been reliable, not saying much since I'm still on the 1st box of Winchester 230 gr hardball. I've got dies, bullet mold, Noe bullet size bushing and a few other odds and ends ordered. Have a good stock of Universal Clays, and Solo 1000 with some Unique and Green Dot on hand. Buddy of my Son-in-Law shoots at a police range and sweeps up afterward. It's said he has several 5 gallon buckets of brass, so I might luck into some of that. All in all, I'm sure there's lots to learn on loading for the auto. Maybe it'll keep me from too many of those honey do's for awhile.

Congrats! What an excellent gift.
The Sig 1911s are high quality pieces. The only objection some have with the external extractor (assuming it works) is that it's a non-standard item (whereas most 1911 parts are super standardized, and easy to obtain anywhere), and therefore won't be quite so easy to locate a replacement for should it need changing out. Other than that, there's nothing at all wrong with external 1911 extractors, if done right, and Sig does it right.

Nice gift!
Don't sweat the extractor issue. Not as easily replaced........not nearly as likely to need it. Not my preference on a 1911, but both Sig and S&W do it right.
Lunatic fringe....we all know you're out there.
