The LLY is a crap engine. It get worse mileage than the LB7 and has an overheating problem. GM really missed the mark on the LLY.
The LB7s do not have the overheating problem, and it looks like they fixed the LLY ills with the LBZ.

If an LB7 (1st Gen) or an LBZ (3rd Gen) Dmax would have been in the test there would have been no issues. In fact, they have done such tests many times with the LB7 and it works great. Over that same strecth of road in the summer when hauling a lighter load (5-7K) it was hard to get my engine past 190 degrees at 80 MPH.
I have no idea what GM did to screw up the LLY (2nd Gen), but it didn't take us LB7 owners long to be glad we had the "old" engine.

Not much personally, but my truck probably isn't a good example anyway because it is far from stock. However, my father-in law pulls his 30 foot fiver frequently. All he has done is add a chip and runs his truck on the 60 HP level. He hasn't had any overheating issues, which is the norm for the LB7 engined Dmax.
