Are you friggin kidding me? God damn it, Ivanka needs to get her friggin ass back to New York where she belongs and stay there. And what about people who choose to not have kids? They just get to keep fugking working their asses off while the parents stay home for free? Go to Hell. Look, I support Trump when he deserves it. I defend Ivanka when the press attacks her without merit. But this is friggin bullschit.

The budget plan, which the administration will unveil as the president travels abroad, will reportedly seek funds for the creation of a program to give new parents six weeks of paid leave following the birth or adoption of a child, the Post reports, citing two senior White House budget office officials. The United States is the only developed nation in the world that guarantees new parents zero paid time off following the arrival of a baby.

Officials told the Washington Post that the paid leave program is expected to cost about $25 billion a year and benefit some 1.3 million people. The details of the program still need hammering out in Congress, and Ivanka Trump is expected to play a key role in that process.

That wasn't a promise that was going to win him votes from his base, or make him palatable to any liberal. So I believed it at the time.

The question is whether Ivanka is also behind his favoring the banning of firearm sales to anybody on the no-fly and terror watch lists. If so... well, wait and see.

I heard different people on here stating about Ivanka taking over after Trump like it would be a good thing. NOT ME. Never ever did I agree with or trust her politics. She's a democrat and most of her policies would be high on a Pelosi or Schummer wish list. When she first came out with this proposal during the campaign, I couldn't believe the amount of Trump supporters that supported and made excuses for, another big government entitlement program. Talk about having blinders on. If Hillary would've came out with the same proposal, those same people would've been calling for an armed revolt.

Don Jr would be a different story from what I know so far. I could be wrong about him but he seems to espouse conservative beliefs and the boy has a future in politics if he chooses to.

I would have expected this program in an Obama budget. That is, if he had ever actually wrote a budget.

It's become one of the newest benefits many private companies are offering, at least in my area of high tech.

It's about as common as paid vacation time.

That doesn't mean the government should have a fund for it and force it. As with any benefit, it should be a private company decision.

I feel sorry for any woman that goes back to work with a 6 week child at home. Men don't need any time off.

Bob, no companies pay for vacation time or this. They pay their people less than they would have paid them with no paid vacation time. Bottom line, employees pay for their own vacation time in the form of lower effective salaries. But I agree, the government has no business whatsoever getting involved in this. If people make a choice to have kids, that's THEIR choice. If I choose to not have kids, I shouldn't have to work my ass off every day so they can get paid to not work. There's a name for that- socialist welfare.

Nothing wrong with dad taking a week or two off to help out mom, especially if you don't have extended family or good friends close by.

There's no reason the government should pay for it. Most professions offer paid leave and if you choose that to be used for family leave instead of a vacation that's your choice.

People make choices and have their priorities, many choose and prioritize poorly and then expect the government to come in and coddle them.

I don't think the .gov should pay for it at all. Damn shame IMO that women have to go to work, especially with a 6 week old at home. This family leave would only buy them that much time. Most folks can't make it on one income anymore.

I hear what you are saying. But, on the flip side perhaps we should be encouraging the white working class to have kids. Not just the inner city blacks, Hispanics, and Muslims. We all know how they reproduce, and who pays for it. Shame that white folks can barely afford to have a kid anymore. We need more white kids from good solid families.

In many cases those that can't make it on one income can't afford to raise kids and are unwilling to adjust their lifestyle to do so. If mom's working then the child goes into daycare, add the cost of an additional vehicle and insurance etc and often that second job costs more than it's worth.

There were many things we didn't do or buy to raise kids on one income.
