There is a place outside Salt Lake City that heat treats them. I would have to dig thru my files to get a name, but you can try google.

Here is my favorite: Mexican Mauser Action, Krieger barrel, Rimrock stock, Timney trigger, side-swing safety, and a 2-7x32 Nikon in Bueller rings and mounts. It has been my go-to deer rifle for 18 or 19 years. If I were doing it again today, I would use an H-S Precision stock simply because Jim Borden quit making Rimrocks.

Somewhere in this house, there’s a Guns & Ammo from a long time ago. Jeff Cooper mentioned an outfit selling Mexican Mauser Actions for $50 bucks a piece. I was about 16 or 17 at the time, and thought that might be something I should buy for later ($50 was a chunk for this 16 y.o. In 1989), I didn’t.
Ran up on that issue a while back. Yep. Shoulda bought one (or two.....).

I bought a Mexican here in 2008 which is very nearly completed... it was sent to Dennis Olson in Montana with an English walnut blank last week I’m finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! Seems like a perfect confidante for a .257 Roberts, and my gunsmith suggested I have mine re-heat-treated which I did. It’s a nice light action that can be tidied up. Im surprised that this action isn’t as popular for intermediate length cartridges as the G33/40 is for 06-length. I’d be all over that personally! This is mine: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...something-new-mexican-sr-98#Post14579716

So for those in the know. Where does color case hardening an action come into play? Will it provide any or enough heat treat or should the heat treat be done first?
