People that like this kind of thing don't understand that stuff is more important than money. If nobody makes the stuff, there is nothing for the money to buy.

Didn't Huey Long propose an allowance for all citizens back during the 1930s? Sort of a universal basic income scheme itself. This idea may be what caused his assassination. It would have pulled about a third of FDR's 1936 voters off to join Huey's third party run for president.

OMG! the question is being asked, roughly, if a 1,000 dollars a year income is ok, or not? how does that different from 0 dollars income plus gov't paperwork such as EBT, etc?

it's all relative. you can trust me on that one.

so, what if humans are given an x amount of resources for food, shelter, & clothing? aren't we already doing that? please say yes. and so, humans are down here on the Urth. what should we do with all of Them?

Rush had me in stitches today when he was playing the clip of mark Zuckerman giving his Harvard speech about universal income.

For the past couple of days he has been making fun of the reporter who was body slammed, as another "pajama boy" metro sexual liberal reporter. Then along comes Zuckerman to whom he referred as a young "pajama boy" metro sexual, and he then started to play the Zuckerman Harvard clip . . . Zuckerman has a high pitched, female-esque voice and as the clip started, Limbaugh yells, "stop the tape, stop the tape, stop the tape!" He claims they had the wrong tape and that they were playing the voice of a "girl." He pauses, as if someone on the other side of the glass is explaining to him that it is in fact Zuckerman, . . . "uh huh . . . oh . . . OK . . . "Excuse me ladies and gentlemen. Such is the problem with losing one's hearing." . . . "It sound like a girls voice . . . my apologies!" . . . "Ahem . . . Ok continue with cut 27."

I was rolling in tears with the satirical comparison of all three girly men. ha ha ha

It's universally basically called Marxism. Easily as effective as any perpetual motion machine, only it has the byproduct of tens of millions of dead folks, but hey, why not try it for the umptyskumth time?


Proving that it is entirely possible for even an imbecile to become filthy rich in the good ol' USA.

The concept is that technology (robots, etc) are going to make basic human "work" non-essential for the majority of the population. Then we will all have nothing important to do related to actual survival. UBI would be the minimum necessary to survive, and from there people could diversify and do what they want to make extra money.

It is such a silly reading of the future (that technology does all of our necessary work) that it hardly should be responded to. However, it is a faddish belief by the Millennials. Many hold it, including in small-town America.

There will still be trash that needs to be picked up, and graffiti to be painted over etc. Probably more with idle hands aplenty. miles

THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE DROPPED OFF THE FOOD STAMP ROLLS IN GEORGIA AS A RESULT OF THE STATE IMPLEMENTING WORK REQUIREMENTS FOR FOOD STAMP RECIPIENTS.

More than half of the 11,779 people enrolled for food stamps in 21 counties, an estimated 7,251 people, have dropped out of the food stamp program—a drop of 62 percent, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Georgia first rolled out its work requirements for the food stamp program in three counties in January 2016. Since then, the state has expanded work requirements in an additional 21 counties, giving people in those 21 counties until April 1, 2017 to find a job or lose food stamp benefits.

Those who receive benefits must work at least 20 hours a week, be enrolled in state-approved job training, or volunteer for a state-approved non-profit or charity.

State officials say the plan is to extend the work requirements to all 159 counties in Georgia by 2019 and implement work requirements in 60 more counties, starting in 2018.

“The greater good is people being employed, being productive and contributing to the state,” said Bobby Cagle, director of Georgia’s Division of Family and Children Services.

Views on the work mandate are mixed in the state, with some seeing the requirement as a way to get more people into the workforce and less dependent on government handouts, while others say it is an unfair measure that targets the disabled who cannot hold down a job due to their impairments.

Brandon Hanick, who represents the progressive advocacy group Better Georgia, says people with mental health problems, limited education, and the physically disabled would have trouble trying to provide proof of their inability to meet the work requirements.

“It’s cruel,” Hanick said. “We’re talking about one of the most basic needs — the need for food.”

State Rep. Greg Morris (R-Vidalia), on the other hand, says that the decrease in food stamp recipients means that the work requirements are helping people become less dependent on government handouts.

“This is about protecting taxpayer dollars from abuse, and taking people off the cycle of dependency,” Morris said. The big drop in numbers, he added, “shows how tax dollars are abused when it comes to entitlements.”

Over the past year, the number of able-bodied food stamp recipients without children in Georgia decreased from 111,000 to 89,500, a 19 percent decrease, the AJC reported.

According to the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture statistics for FY 2017, 42,906,253 Americans are enrolled in the food stamp program—a 2.9 percent decrease from FY 2016, when 44,219,363 Americans received food stamps.

Sounds awesome to me. Don't work, don't eat--unless you have a real reason that you can't work.

By the sounds of it, all one has to do is volunteer at a non-profit such as a church. I'm sure everyone can do that, even the disabled and mentally unstable.

No work and/or failed drug test, no handouts.

Tell Zuckerman that anyone who makes more than 500k a year will be taxed a minimum of 75% to pay for it.

90% seems more fair. That's what it used to be back when America was great.
