I don't know about that. Now I have fired some of the collapsible like the Magpull ACS. That's OK just not any better than the A-2 for me. When I mount the A-2 the rifle falls right into my shoulder and my eye is square in the sights. Of course I don't use low sights, mine is on a detachable carry handle. The one that was on the Ruger when I bought it was basically garbage.

I was talking to a buddy of mine today and he sent me a link to an A1 detachable carry handle. We were discussing the virtues of the older stuff and he is surprised it has the following it has. I reminded him I hated all AR's until I picked up his SP-1 carbine. That was the gun that started it all for me after the ban of 94. Of course I had to settle for an A2 stocked Colt and the next one was an AR-10 complete with an A2 stock. The SP-1 has the 2 position stock so LOP is close to the same as the A1 or maybe the A2.

As soon as the ban ended I swapped stocks and tried several different ones until finally deciding the SOPMOD stock was my favorite and I found I shot it best a notch or two in instead of all the way out. I'm not a small guy at 6' 225 pounds and a 35" sleeve. I think lillysdad is right, most older guys shot totally different than what is taught now. Rifles same as pistols, techniques have changed as have equipment. I remember when grabbing the front of the magwell with the support hand was acceptable as was the chicken wing stance. Heck I'm just now trying the "new" K2 grip and so far I'm liking it, time will tell.

I was taught to shoot by old guys, 80's 90's or dead now. Probably I shoot just like them. No need to learn any new methods at this point. What works has always worked and their isn't any good reason to change it. Frankly, at this age I'm at now, change isn't something I do well.
