I went in in 1971 and had a service number. B76****. Can't remember when it changed.

It is beginning to seem as if it may not have changed at the same time everywhere. I was drafted and entered the Army on Oct. 26, 1967 and left the Army after spending my one year vacation in SE Asia on July 24, 1969. I know that I spent many of my months reciting my Army Serial number to get my pay, but some time along the way they switched to Social Security number, and I have both sets of dog tags. I think it was early 69 or late 68 for me, but can't remember exactly. miles

Look out for number 1, don't step in number 2.

We shop there a little but only because it is handy and we don't have to pay sales tax, which is great if you are buying a new TV or some such.

Yep. The Exchanges, staffed by Gov't (non) workers have become the perpetual self-licking ice cream cone. Their pay and benefits continue to increase, so do the prices.

Exchange employees are non-appropriated funds employees, not GS. Commissary employees are GS.

Decided to give them a try and make sure I was set-up correctly today... instead of running down to Home Depot or Lowe's for a new room fan, went ahead and purchased two 20" pedestal oscillating fans for $39.99 each. No tax and free shipping, came to $79.98 delivered. Pretty good!

Order Receipt also stated;

Thank You for your order. We received your order and we are processing it. Your purchase makes a difference. AAFES earnings are used for Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Programs to support quality of life improvements for soldiers, airmen and their families. In the past 10 years your purchases have help contribute more than $1.9 billion.

Will probably use them when ever possible.

As it should be. Veterans should be able to shop at military exchanges online.
