I'm in the market to buy a rototiller. I'd like a good, solid, reliable, easy to maintain tiller. So far, I've talked to salesmen about Troy-Bilt and BSM walk behind tractors (they make their products sound great). What are you using? What do you like?

I had always done the soil preparation with a tractor, only using a front tine garden tiller to work it out after planting. Three years ago, I bought a rear tine tiller after a lot of research. I looked a several brands here locally, and narrowed it down to a Troy Bilt or a Husqvarna. Ended up with the Husqvarna because of 2 things.....Lowes had it on sale and I had $200 Lowes gift cards, and it had a Honda engine. It has worked absolutely great, and I have a big garden.

I think the BCS Tiller is made in Italy. It is described as a "walk behind" tractor.

I use a Troy bilt. Mid model. Has forward and reverse but not change speeds like the upper end models. Started out with a Briggs & Stratton. Now has a $99 harbor freight knockoff.

Dave, does the Harbor Freight engine maintain it's speed when the tines bog down while tilling, like a governor? I'm thinking of replacing the Tecumseh on my old 1974 Troy-Bilt. Thanks...

Yes, it maintains speed. I've been supprised at how well the engine runs. Usually starts on first pull.

Get one with the handle height made for when you are actually using it. So it should be too high when just sitting still on flat ground.

Anyone using the flail mower attachment with the BCS? No, but I'm thinking of getting one. If nothing else, to clear a path through cutover to my deer stand... From an old guy standpoint on the BCS, if you put it in 3rd, you best have your running shoes on.

Ed +1 We had a Troy Built Horse model , circa early 70s. Used it for 30 years on our gardens and others, and it was a wonderful piece of equipment. Sold it when we moved up here for more than we paid for it. That conpany is gone, only the name remains and the current TB tiller is nowhere close to the original in quality.

Had a Troy Built Horse for about ten years or so, bought new in the late 90's. Kohler motor. When I could get it started it was an awesome machine. In the end I got rid of it because it was such a pain to get it running.
