I've read for years that the 1911 isn't a gun for beginners. I still don't understand the reason for that assumption. I find a 1911 as easy and intuitive to operate as any other handgun. Release the safety (conveniently located under your thumb) and pull the trigger. It ain't that hard. No, it's not hard at all. In fact it can happen easier than you think with someone who doesn't shoot a lot. I've witnessed 2 ADs in tense situations due to the single action trigger of a 1911. And the 1911 is still my first choice for most purposes that I carry a pistol. I am a fan...

The 1911 hasn't been relevant as a personal defense pistol since the 1930's. Had it not been for the highly fictional writings of Jeff Cooper the gun would have gone the way of the SAA revolvers and been a historical curiosity years ago. I still think it is a fine choice for playing range games. But don't confuse that with the needs of self defense.

I've shot and owned 1911's for years. I love the gun, but as a left handed shooter it's always been a bit awkward. I think today, people expect a de-cocking lever. Also, I think the idea of carrying it with the hammer cocked is scary to some people. I'm not saying I agree, but I think I see where it's coming from.

Fitting an ambi safety negates any problems for me.

I hear you and agree. Back when I was carrying one for Uncle Sam that mod wasn't an option.

Dirty Harry calls BS on this.
If you can't run with a 1911 or wheelgun you probably need a walker.

They know that the time of the 1911 has passed. LOL. Is that why more manufacturers produce more 1911's than any other make

Makes sense to me: Those who carry a 1911 or revolver probably don't need no stinking classes

Maybe it should now be the INTERNational Rifle Association, if they choose foreign pistols over 1911's?
