I think this may have been brought up earlier, but would it be wise to use a .223 rem field gauge as a 5.56 no go, if one has a hard time finding a 5.56 NATO no go gauge?????

The gauges for the NATO 5.56 are spec'ed as Min & Max & the Forster versions are (1.4636 +.0003, -0 for the Min) & (1.4736 +0, -.0003 for the Max).

I use the Forster NATO min gauge as a Go & a .223 Field Gauge as a No-Go.

But you can buy the 5.56 Max gauge from Forster if you really want one.

Thanks MM. I bought the set of minimum and maximum gauges from Forster. I've been doing some surfing and found that some builders use the Forster 5.56 maximum for the no go gauge. I just checked my LH stag 6HL with its new BCG and it works with the minimum, but will not close on the maximum gauge. There is no way possible that it would close on the max gauge, so I guess I'm good to go. We'll see at the range tomorrow.... wink ... I am still thinking I'd like to get an in-between gauge like the .223 rem field gauge as well to check the chamber/headspace on my 5.56 rifles.
