Kimber, I think sarah brady was there preacher.

I do know about 12 years ago when my mom ran into her first brown bear on the trail up here on a visit, she was praying pretty heavily so I guess religion does come into play. All is good now, both have there own guns, pops has his paperwork going to get his FFL and he also shot his first blackie this past spring. I guess they do listen to there kid once in a while.

Old Winchester Model 94 in 30-30 and a Model 12 Winchester. Both bought on the same day at the same hardware store. Both of which are in my safe, man the stories I am sure they could tell if they could talk.

My grandfather used a Winchester Model 94 in .32 Winchester Special.

The rifle now sits in my gun cabinet.

My grandfather used a Remington Rolling Block No. 4 in .22 LR, which is now my son's. His big rifle was a Rolling Block in .45-70.

My father used a Remington 700 ADL in .30-06, of course, like all WW2 vets.

I am the first big-game hunter in our family so I am doing my best to have quality rigs to pass on. Nice post, I wish I'd had a family hunting mentor, guess thats why all 3 of my kids are growing up with guns/hunting.

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

My late grandfather's (on my father's side) one and only deer rifle was a model 1891 7.65x53mm Mauser. I own it today and it's an absolute pleasure to take it out and shoot with it knowing that he once held it in his hands. I don't hunt with it much since it's not scoped, but I have taken deer with it.

On a similar note, my other grandfather did not hunt, but instead enjoyed woodworking and such. I have several of his tools and get a lot of satisfaction out of using them, especially the old Stanley hand plane.

My grandfather did it all with 2 rifles. A Kraig rifle in 30-40 Kraig & a Savage 99F in 300 Savage. Neither rifle was scoped. He used them until he passed away a few years back.

The Remington 141 in 35 Rem. was probably my grandfather's favorite deer rifle. He sure did shoot a lot of huge bucks with his. He traded that rifle about twenty years before he died so, obviously, I did not inherit it.

However, another relative of mine (a 3rd or 4th cousin) had a Remington 141 in 30 Rem. To make a long story short, I purchased that rifle in the summer of 2000 and shot a very nice 9-pointer here in Georgia in 2002. It's not my Granddaddy's 35 but it's close. Those are such good carrying and pointing rifles. And how many people still own rifles chambered in 30 Rem?

I had three grandfathers; all of whom hunted.
My maternal grandfather hunted with a Model 94 in 30/30. It was sent back to the factory for reconditioning after about 30 years and came back looking new.
My mother's step-father was my second grandfather. He hunted with a Remington 30s in 30/06, a 270 gibbs on a FN action, and a 303 Lee Enfield.
My paternal grandfather's main rifle was a Winchester M70 in 300H&H. Another he used occasionally was a '03 Springfield. He backed these up with a colt in 38 Super. GD

a Pre64 94 in 30.30 or a 99 savage in 300 savage. Both in my gun safe. I don't actully know which he prefered as he nearing the end of his hunting days when I was just starting. My dad uses a Ithca deerslayer and remington pump in 30.06
