Should mention that the "effort" is minimal. e. If you are getting a new barrel it would be. Even existing you are just reaming and redoing head space? Would have to be a gun you don't plan on selling. Though for me, that is not a big deal.

I asked if you would be more selective with 223 shot placement, than30-06 No I wouldn't. The shot placement is the same with either caliber. Through the shoulders or right behind.

Is the question still which Montana? If so, I'll vote for the 7-08.
If not? Carry on this is too entertaining! The question is .223 Rem or .22-250.

Or I wouldn't have asked. I want a .22-250. I need a big gun to go along with .223 for the bigger moose and elk sized critters. I didn't know if the twist was adequate to shoot the heavier 55-62 gr bullets available in the slow twist Kimber and apparently everyone else puts on the .22-250's.

And what is this "trim" you speak of? I think I need some of that. Yep, I'm gonna get me some trim.
If you "trim" properly, you will catch the wind in the most appropriate/efficient manner. When all is factored in-again properly-you may even be able to shoot in a field.

Wait for a .22-250 that is twisted the way you want.
Builder mistake on mine and it came out as a 1:10. 62's do fine, but it loves 55 Barnes. It has an excess of trim when it comes to dropping Deer.

Yeah, the shooting while getting trim usually involves the bush more than the field

Hmmm, just did. Well, somehow I missed that one back in time. Annnnyway, I was trying to keep the thread kinda on track with hunting/shooting. Then you go and pull a "Zerk" and take it off track. I'll be back later. Your trim is my shag. Trim is so out of date. Literally.

The correct term is a "zerk-off."

Can I ask why you are considering the 22s vs some of the 24 or 25 cal. chamberings. To be frank in my groundhog hunting days I found the 22s excellent but really offering nothing that the .243 or 6mm couldn't do just as well and while the 223 may well take deer and im sure it does the 24s just offer you an extra margin of power especially at extended ranges. I believe that even ingwe has said he try's to limit his deer shooting to around 200 yds which admittedly is a lot of deer hunting . I'll also point out all of the threads about trying to find this or that 22 bullet /reload for deer. That tells me that people know they are pushing the envelope on the 22s. With a 24 cal you can just buy a $14 box of Federal blue box or power points 100 gr. and you are good to go. If you want something looney take a look at a 250. Savage everything the 243 offers with a good dose of loonyism. Maybe I should have saved bandwidth and asked what really does the 223 do in a bolt rifle that the 243 can't if you don't just want to buy the cheapest surplus ammo you can find.

Recoil and most often seeing it happen.
What does the .243 do that a whatever .+++ doesn't, and on an on up the list. I'd stretch the .22-250 another 100. Would it beat a .243 in the distance race? No, but something out there beats the .243 and on and on.

Tzone I can respect that and that's enough. But to Battues point I have to say you can move up the list but as you go larger then your first sentence does begin to come into play. With the 243,6mm and 6mmCM not so much. The bottom line to me is the sweet spot for the varmint deer/antelope combo is the 24s hands down . Of course ymmv.

From Zerk's FB page. It's amazing how incredibly stupid some people can be without them having a clue about it them self.
It's official. I missed the selfie deadline so I'm Maser's sock puppet because rene and the Polish half of the fubar twins have decided that I am.

Get out the tar feathers, for anyone that tells the guy what he doesn't want to hear. Don't feel bad, the first page was littered with people saying the same. He just didn't want to hear it. A guy shouldn't ask questions in public, if answers upset them Even recoil sensitive people should be able to handle 6 or 6.5mm.
