My FIL had one. The recoil is terrible and there's no good way to carry the things in your hand.

If paring down, I think it's smart to have two rifles chambered for the same cartridge. Redundancy isn't a bad thing IMO.

One thing I can say about my own rifles is the majority are short action, and don't kick very much. Less really is more in more ways than one.

Started this same journey 2-3 years ago. Got out of the last 30 cal Mag last year, and all the 30 cal bullets went away shortly after that. Even the 300WMg dies will go in the mail this week whenever the check arrives, but still hanging on to the 308 dies as much for sentimental reasons as practical.

I'm delivering the 5th remaining rifle later today, a T3 HG 260, with 3 calibers left that are still too close together, since the goal is 1 not more than 2 calibers and 3 shooters for the BH to dump when I'm gone...

IMO right now, the ideal setup for me is a rough use Brush gun, a longer barreled "Pretty Shooter" to brag about with both of 'em in 1 doall caliber & 2 cartridges , and mebbe a 2nd larger/smaller cartridge play toy as well.

The 3 remaining calibers are a 270 - since I've had one of some sort since 1969, a new to me 7x57 that could become a quality 7-08 or 280 and a NIB 6,5x55 Swede that I had one of before about 7-8 years ago and loved it coming off a major shoulder surgery and traded after I healed for another shiny object..

I think just mebbe the 2 shooters of the 3 keeper's will be 7mm's in some mix, & and the T3 Super Lite Swede I picked up earlier this year would make the 3 Gun Max Limit Plan complete...just having problems getting my head around not having a 270 of some sort anymore...but then a BACO 264WMg M70 just hit the classifieds of my local forum this morning that would make a great 270 replacement. Hmmm????

Jwall has it right. To the OP I'm sort of in the same spot as you.

It's like anything really. You get into it then you get out of it. Some do, some don't. What is always amazing is the emotional attachment to the stuff.

Zerk, It is a "semi-final custom" that I had put together and got in Feb of 1990. The only changes: Threw away the muzzle brake (should have "never" wasted money on that), several years later put on Leupold QD bases and rings, and most recently (about 4 or 5 years ago) changed from my 2.5-8 Leupold to a 3.5-10 Leupold! Other than a few load changes, not many changes since 1990. memtb

Understand all about "STUFF". Besides my own accumulation, I've got relics of my childrens' education and athletics, a bunch of ex-wife clothing, plus all the extra junk you get when you combine a couple of households. Books, books, and more books. Tired of trying to get people to move their schitt, they can throw it out when I die.

Then how are you such an expert in the other calibers?

hum... no 25s, no 6.5 (260, Creed, X47), no Noslers ? ? ?

I COULD get by with my 6mm Rem, and 270 Win but I'd SURE miss my 7 RM, 06, & 300 WM

I should have kept my 7mm RM, I traded away and do not miss my 6.5 creed, 260 REM, 300 WSM and 375 Ruger, so for me I guess Old School rules

I sold a few I should not have the past year or so, but pretty much corrected that. I don't think I'll ever be down to just one, but right now the plan is to keep what I have (without anymore additions) for maybe another 10 years, use'em if I can if my health holds out and then drastically reduce to a few I can use in whatever time I might have left. That's the plan............is that God I hear laughing? What's so funny?

I LIKE old school. I've only had my 6.5 Swede since Dec 2011.
The 270 7 RM & 300 WM are favorite rounds to me. I'd fight or shoot anyone who tried to take any of them away.

I had a 35 Wh made before Rem adopted it. I liked it enuff but really didn't need it. I'd do another
before getting a 358 W - which I've had a few.

4. Custom 6.5 Creedmoor, F-Class, Varmint Silhouette, PRS type shooting
5. Seekin's Precision AR .223, Carbine matches, Patrol rifle
6. Beeman 350 Magnum, .177 cal springer Air Rifle
7. Browning 725 Sporting, 20ga, Sporting Clays
8. Benelli Super Black Eagle II, general hunting

Shopping for a lightweight hunting rifle, eye on the new Barrett Fieldcraft 6.5 Creedmoor.

My point was even though you only hunt with one of them, you still hang on to the others. Many of us here are the same.

I just got the VX3i3.5-10 too. Like it. I had always hunted 2-7, which is still great, and on other hunting rifles. Mostly I like it for working up loads.

The idea of thinning the herd considerably is very appealing, but there are two problems: 1. While I'd like to have fewer firearms than I've got, I don't want to get rid of any of the ones I have. 2. It's just too much trouble. to deal with.

I thinned the number in the safe down by one. It is easier to close the door now. No need to go further.

About a year ago Daughter #3 asked how many firearms I had. When I responded I didn't know, she started emptying the safe and counting them. Then she went to the other safe. Then we counted those that hadn't been counted yet. The number was surprising.

Might sell one more to fund a suppressor, but which one?
