I have a 45/70 and a 223. Given the choice as a deer rifle I pick the latter everytime.

I believe you. And I bet they all use scentblocker jumpsuits too.

I have a Savage 11 with a 12 twist and the 55 TTSX shows a little oblongation of the holes in the target at 100 yards. Accuracy is off from my other loads as well. Elevation 0. Velocity unknown, but much closer to the max than the starting charge.

I am not sure if you mean people using 45-70s are hunting close, or using modern gimmicks. While 45-70 is good for 150 yards, more if you know your distance and gun, they hunting in woods, and not farm fields.

Around here AR15s are for coyotes. AR10 would be my choice for deer, if I wanted to use that platform.

I have never shot a deer over 40 yards, last one was around 20. You can't have to many guns. But where I hunt, I want it to run the least. Granted they can run far, when hit from most anything.

I also like something I can use for deer or bear.

223 it is more critical to wait for right shot. But I don't argue in the heart or longs it will work, especially with a good expanding bullet.

I have been hanging out here for 13 years or so and nobody has come close to making my ignore list. This [bleep] is everydamnwhere though. Polluting the entire forum. I'll keep scrolling past its semi-literate ramblings (the few I have accidentally read) and hopefully it'll burn out like so many of them that start out hard out of the gate do.

How often do you shoot? The 45-70 is a fun gun. But you're not going to sit down and put 100 rounds through it in an afternoon. We have 2 or 3 .223's, piles of 22's, a 45-70 and others. Nobody has used the 45-70 in years. It's a heavy tank. The 223, 7mausers, 280's .243, 06's all get more use, are easier to carry, easier to shoot, and we put more rounds through them. We learn the rifles, and the safeties and how to operate them.

But I can guarantee you...there is no way in hell the 45-70 kills more deer annually than the .223. Maybe at one time, but not anymore.

I just ordered it. Hopefully this fall will have one to show.

I hunt in the woods, not texas.

It just blows my mind, that you think people are not using them. How ignorant can you be, not to listen.

Around here 223 are coyote guns.

I don't doubt that I won't shoot it all day. I bought it for hunting not target shooting. It is not the only gun I have. If I want to target shoot, would use 30-06, for practice, or 22 for fun.

Maybe out in Sandy scrubby area where you can watch a deer run 100 yards after you shoot it,or can watch it come in, people are using them. But most people are not using leas than 6mm even in those areas.

Where I am 30 cal, 7mm, is most popular. But there are quite a few using 45-70 too.

Since one shot with that will work, I am.not worried about being able to shoot all day. Lots of people say not all that different than 30-06, which I do shoot all day, with a thick shirt on.

Do you need a safe place? Maybe a comfort animal. Take day feom work, and talk to someone.
