Don't post photos so I'll have to go with the auction listing. Ironically, found one in 30/30 the other day as well. Always regretted selling the 30/30, was it to DiamondJim?? I forget now. Word to the wise, Don't sell them if they make your heart go aflutter!

Yeah I hope so. 30/30 looks a little bit more used but the 300 looks almost mint. Weird that two come up so close together after looking for one for years. I know the checkered EG's are probably "nicer" but something about the uncheckered ones speak to me. All business, no frills, but still quality enough to wear walnut, unlike the later economy models. It's all subjective anyhow.

Nice pre-war EGs. Were you the lucky dog?

Yes Greg, both about the same age, 30/30 probably has the 22" barrel IIRC and 300 24".

I wouldn't say that the checkered EGs are nicer. They are just checkered, thats all.

More common would be the phrase I'd use.

Tough to find nice uncheckered EGs, and always tough to find 303/30-30's. Good job.

You sure you've got room in your new place for those two cuties? I'm not that far away and I'd be glad to store them for you until you find room. grin

Great rifles. Are these tomato stakes or is that term limited to Chicopee 300 EG's? David

No David, they're not tomato stakes. You see, we moved to a river cabin and I was in need of a matched pair of canoe paddles. The 30/30 with the 2" shorter handle is the wife's, so I'll use the longer 300.

BTW, if you ever want to get a divorce, buy a canoe to paddle around with your wife in. That and backing up an rv should never be done with a spouse.

I have a pre war non-checkered EG in 30-30 as well. Bought it from a good guy on here.

My pre war EG in 300 is checkered.

Both rifles are superb. The mid 20s through the 30s was a great time for Savage 99s. Every gun was of the highest quality IMO.
