With the demise of R22 refrigerant, does that mean we will all be buying new HVAC systems within the next few years?

If so, I'm buying all the HVAC businesses I can and will lobby Congress and the UN to outlaw refridgerants every 7 years. Gota save the ozone, you know. wink

Just stock up on 22 for now.

It won't be long before the new type will be no longer in vogue and it too will be demonized.

its $90 a pound and going up. In two years the law says you can no longer manufacture the refrigerant. If your 10 ton R22 unit goes down its cheaper in the long run to pay $9700 for a new one....this is a fact....and yes the ratbastards will continue to outlaw refrigerants and transfer money to 3rd world s-hithole countries everytime a socialist is elected.

Just play the long game and store it.

You will make your money back and then some.

Worked darned good with r-12.

That pallet lasted for about a year and a half and more than tripled what it cost.

I stored some R 12 back in the days when it was going away.
Sold the last to auto a/c shops before no one wanted it. Made a profit.

The same will be true for R22.
Be careful to sell it off before no one wants it anymore. It will then be worthless.

The new stuff is R 410a, in about 10 years it too will be replaced.
It is all about patents!

My home and HVAC unit are 23 years old now, asked a hunting buddy that owns a HVAC business if I should replace or repair my system.

He replied his current cost of R22 to refill my system would be well over a grand now and I would be better off putting that towards a new system that would save money every month.
