Hey Gang,
I just happened upon a new in box, Traditions Pursuit .50 cal muzzleloader. Anyone have an opinion that they want to lend regarding this rifle! The break open design will be a breath of fresh air, as I am still hunting with the old inline style. I'm hoping to get a few rounds down range within the next week or so. Load suggestions would be appreciated as well.

Their breech plug works well with BH 209. The gun is a pretty good deal. The local Academy had them for a long time at a good price. The price actually scared away some people because it was so low. My only complaint was that the factory two piece bases did not leave any room to adjust eye relief. Now they have a one piece base that corrects the problem.

I have 3 of the Pursuit XLT's. My daughters and I use them to hunt deer mostly. We use 80 grains of BH209, CCI 209 M primers and 250 gr Shockwaves in a Harvestor Crush Rib sabot. That generally results in couple inch groups at a hundred yards and that's about as far as we shoot. I'd post some pictures but I can't seem to figure out how to get them to show up in a post after I upload them to the image gallery. I've got a T/C Triumph as well but I think the Pursuit XLT's are much nicer handling guns.

I've been shooting the pusuit XLT for the past 8 or 9 years with no complaints. 90 grains of BH209 under a 450 keith nose bullet from precision rifle has taken deer, elk and buffalo with no complaints.

Does that Traditions Pursuit have the plastic rear sight? I'm not knocking them. My hunting partner has a Traditions, but I don't know what model. He has broken three sights. The sight clamps on a tapered rail to get elevation adjustment and is tightened with a cross screw that clamps it, which breaks the sight.

Keep an eye on the frame. The alloy is known to wear near the firing pin.

I don't remember the rear sight being plastic but I've taken them off all my Pursuits and they all wear scopes.
