The newest member of the family is a Rem 700 classic made in in 1994 in 6.5 x 55 Swedish .. New in the Box which my Uncle bought and never used- he passed it on to me with a note to use it well...

So I'm asking you guys for points of good research Reference's from the writers here- I do reload- I have bought dies from Redding ( Deluxe die set), brass from Norma...

Holding off on the projectiles until I read more from you guys- I'll be Deer hunting with it from tree stands and shooting houses..

I'm wondering if there was ever an article in Handloader or Rifle magazine in regards to this Round...

Thanks

129gr Hornady spire point is a time-tested killer in 6.5s. Also, the 120 Sierras and ballistic tips. Go forth and slay critters.

Most people here use the 120gr BT, 125gr Partition, 129gr Hornady Interlokt and the various 140's. I think the 125 Partition and the 129gr Hornady are the two best bullets for white tail. Some guns just won't shoot the Partition but the 129gr Hornady seems to be a pretty easy bullet to get to shoot accurately. Never been a deer born that can take one in the ribs and live. The 130gr Accubonds are becoming more and more popular as of late and rightfully so...the Accubond is a terrific performer. powdr

What a wonderful gift. I wish Remington still produced their classic line. On a whim I bought a Howa 6.5x55 about 6 months ago. It being on sale for $295 may have had something to do with the impulse buy. I have a 6.5 Creedmoor as well. I typically start load development with Hornady 129 SST bullets. They are cheap and pretty accurate, then once I get my load close to where I want it, I fine tune it with bullets I like better. The first load out of the Swede was 44 grains of RL17. It went about 3/4 of an inch (3 shots.) That was the Swede's only trip to the range so far. I made up a batch of 129 ABLRs with the 44 grain RL17 charge and I have a hunch they are going to impress. There are several good 6.5x55 threads here and on the Nosler forum. Post a pic of that rifle!

From the FORUM list page-- scroll down quite a ways and you'll find Reloading Forum- Big Game Rifles -click, scroll down to Campfire Pet Loads - click on P 3, scroll down to scottfrom dallas.. 6.5X55 good loads--click

THERE you'll find 14 pages discussing loads for the 6.5X55. On P 1 note Denton's posts of particular interest.

Good Luck

From experience with 260 deer loads I can tell you 120 Ballistic Tips, 125 Partitions and 129 Interlocks (regular, not SST) all work great on deer. They should all be just as good in a Swede.

Congrats on having an Uncle who thought so much of you to leave you such a fine firearm. He must have been a great guy sorry for your loss. I thought about purchasing the same firearm not so long ago there is one on GB right now for 1195.00. I am sure it handles like a champ.

Ken Waters had 2 articles in Handloader in 86 and 95. He liked RL22 and 4831. His most accurate in 95 was a 120 NBT and RL22 and best big game load 140 NPT and H4831 all loads with WLR primers. He had good things to say about H4350 as well.

H4831SC and a 140 Nosler Partition is a great place to start you can view the attached from Ballistic Studies lots of good info there. http://www.ballisticstudies.com/Knowledgebase/6.5x55.html

Good luck and shoot straight

My Swede, a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight Classic, shoots 125 grain Partitions into tiny groups and is pore poison on whitetails. My Remington 700 Classic does the same thing.

I had a Model 70 FWT 6.5x55 that shot quite accurately with 140 Partitions and 140 GameKings; not all that great with light bullets.

I have been using 130 grain AB's for about ten years in my Sako. They shoot into bugholes and kill deer dedernshit.

Dang...once again I see I was born into the wrong family! Awful sweet of him to give you that gift. The 700 Classic was my favorite of the 700's and loved the chambering of a different classic every year. Sure wish I had my Roberts back in the Classic. Stupid of me to sell it! Hope you enjoy your gift!

Works well with the 129 Hornaday too, it is all I need for deer hunting.

I kept sending Emails to Remington to make a left hand classic but to no avail. I think some collectors would get a LH and a RH if offered with consecutive numbers.

129/130 grains seems to be a nearly perfect balanced sweet spot for 6.5mm bore cartridges. If limited to only one projectile to shoot in my gazillion 6.5mm bore rifles, it would be the 130 grain AB.

Great and inherently accurate cartridge. Depending on your bbl twist do not miss out on 140grains! IMR 4350, IMR 4831, R 19 are all super choices as well the Hogdon =.

125 Nosler Partitions with R 19
140 Hornadays with H414

are two of my go to loads

I used the Hornady 129sp in a 260, axis buck & a Mouflon ram. It did the job, though it killed slow. It may have been just that particular Lot# of bullets, but that's just two animals. I had the rifle rechambered to 6.5/284 and used Nosler 125PTs and then settled on the 120BT. Never shot anything heavier, and they were/are two particularly spectacular deer and antelope killers! ha
I too had an Uncle that blessed me with a rifle and a love for handloading back when I was 16 (close to 50yrs ago now!) and the Classic in the Swede is a Jim Dandy one! congrats! I have two full boxes of 6.5/120 Ballistic tips I'll trade or sell to you if you can't find some locally. Good luck to you Pard!

Guys
Thank all of you for the great information... Just got home from flying and the little lady placed all of my reloading goodies on the bench for me- so I'm getting to work on putting together a hunting load for this season... Gonna start with Hornady 129 interlocks and 140 SST's and H4831SC, IMR 4955 and RL19- big supply on hand...

The directions on using the site to locate the reloading information is a great help...

One last question; In regards to RL22 and RL26 was there ever a real problem with temperature sensitivity- here in Northwest Florida the temps during Rifle season ranges from 65F to 9F in a 9 day period- this is the primary reason I switch to H4831sc...

Thanks again guys and keep the wind in your face..

You are welcome, I was simply trying to help. I'm glad you find it useful.

Good luck on your project and I hope you find multiple load recipes that work well.
