RBros 280 AI, Broughton #4, Timney, used to have a McM Hunter's Edge but now wears a newly fluted barrel and new bedded stock - both done by Kampfeld, now it's on me to find a cow and buck.

Since it's a 6x scope I only set the target at 50 yards for verifying zero and testing the load. And yes I'm sure plenty of you are better than me and can shoot itty bitty groups at 100 with your eyes closed. I've shot plenty of sub .3s and even a .189 @ 100, but with this target in particular the crosshair covers up the entire inner green cicle, so 50 it was. Little breezy, nothing bad.

With my handloads, RL26 @ 3120

The surprise was factory Federal 280 Remington 150 NPs, just fireforming the cases and thought I'd shoot one group with them just to see...

Turned it on the steel coyote at 436, no problem. It's ready to hunt.

No problem man, just change the target to suit. With an appropriate aim point I've shot below half moa at 300 yards with a 4x scope.

My experience has shown me that the Fed 280 Rem w/150NP is a very accurate fireform load in the 280AI

Damn near a twin to mine albeit mine is in an McM Remington Hunter. Guess mine is the fat sister to yours.

It does stupidly nice things with 150 tax and 162 eld-m's. That should pretty much do it all with aplomb.

Taco where are you looking for a cow elk? What state and unit. Nice rifle the 280 ai is as good of choice as anyone could ever pick.

CO 86. Lots of elk on private land, hopefully can find one on the public stuff. Also going OTC archery in search of anything legal for meat in the freezer.

Good luck to all

MA,

What powder are you using? RL26 gives me a lot more speed, but IMR4350 averaged about 1/3" @ 100 - just about 150fps slower.

Taco, so far it has only seen R22 as my 26 has been loaded into my 7 WSM and 300 WSM. Honestly I haven't shot it in close to a year.
