They actually changed a lot of the "zones". Dave, yours is now 111. Ours is 130, 132 and 133? crazy The spot we hunt is literally at the intersection of those 3 zones. I don't necessarily disagree with that. It looks like they're trying to really micromanage the deer zones. Believe it or not, there are pockets of deer in that area. It has to do with the way things are logged and how the wolves push them around.

Wow. Now that I took a look, it's really confusing. We are in a Hunters Choice for the most part. A bit odd but I'll take it. We eat a lot of deer. I'll be flyin solo in MN this season. My best hunting partner will be pheasant hunting in SD on the MN opener.

He is however, VERY excited to come to WI and hunt with his dad. We have been planning spots since early December of last year. We talk about stand placement on a weekly basis. But, there's heavy logging going on. So, I'm sure some of our ideas will be moved around a bit.

Crap. Today at work is shot now.... grin

Looking forward to this year for deer season. My daughter turned 12 and passed her firearm safety class. So she is pumped up. She will be coming up the second weekend. Got her Ruger american compact .308. With the Hornady custom lite ammo. Man those take huge recoil out like 25 percent. Pretty impress with the less recoil. We only shoot like 30 -80 yards at that range i think the bullet will still be very effective. If shooting like 200-300 or further yards dont know if i would be using custom lite bullets.

Almost a month away I'll be in Northern BC for mountain goat and moose. Been getting in shape, starting to get excited for that.

Ten years. WOW! lots has happened. I very well remember lying in a hospital bed in June,2008 after quadruple bypass surgery and couldn't wait to get home and see what was the latest post on "Birth of a Deer Camp".
We have all been thru a lot together here. It has been great so far.
I wear a Chickenbuck hat and T shirt every year when hunting.
Thank you all for being here.

My buddy bought his son a full size ruger American in .308 and the recoil with normal factory loads is minimal. I bet it's down right fun with the lite loads. I had a 7600 in .308 and a Winchester m70 compact in .308 that both bucked like a mule. That should be a great rifle for her!

Congratulations Dave. Will there be a Chapel of Chickenbuck wedding? How cool would that be?

Went up to my buddy's shack yesterday. We cut grass in the rain, made some pizzas in the gas oven, shot A LOT. I needed brass for my M70 fwt XTR (push feed) 7x57. We shot a few boxes of that. Got the new M70 Extreme Weather 30-06 on paper. That was a stubborn bastard. After 4 shots from 50 yards not hitting the paper. I finally walked up and shot one from 10, then 25, then I was closed enough to shoot from 50. Sighted it in right at 50 with Federal Fusion 165gr. There isn't a 100yd range the property, so I have more work to do on that. While we were letting barrels cool, we were shooting my Tikka .223 Rem. That's a fun, accurate little gun.

The M70 Extreme Weather is a sweet little gun! It's a stainless, fluted barrel, Bell and Carlson fiberglass stock. It's a smooth action, shot Federal Fusion's pretty well, but I want to shoot some more brands, and different bullets. I'm not set up for reloading 30-06 yet. I won't be by this deer season, but will by next year.

Caught up on a lot of house projects this weekend. Mama's starting go crazy before the baby comes. grin

Congrats on gaining a son. Our second to the oldest daughter got engaged about a month ago. Wedding is planned for Sep. 2018.

Our oldest, who got married last summer gave me a onsie(sp) and a card for Father Day announcing the news that we are going to be Grandpa and Grandma in February.

When the heck did we get old Dave?? lol

I've been watching two does and three fawns in a bean field for the last week, and then I saw buckzilla in the bean field across the street from the house. Even without my glasses on I could see BIG horns. Of course I can't get permission for that field. They'll let me kill 'yotes as much as I can/want, but ask about deer hunting and the answer's always been NO.

Cathy and I are taking a ride over to Sisconnie tomorrow to look at some parcels of property. We're kind of putting ourselves on the 10 year plan heading towards retirement. We hope to buy 10-15 acres and start out by putting in a camper, and eventually building on the land. We will sell the house to fund the build so we don't have to raid my 401K plan. I hope some day to be able to have Chickenbuck-like stories to tell from our little patch of woods in Cheeseland. We are looking at 6 different parcels in the Ladysmith area. We booked a room in Ladysmith, and hope to hit three parcels tomorrow and three on Saturday. Should put me back home in time to do some fishing on Sunday morning. Have a good weekend guys.
