I have an itch for one. People sure are proud of them on GunBroker. Anyone know of actual sell price for a nice one?

I bought one in 2010 with a weaver k3 on top for $450. Good metal, decent stock, the trigger/safety is pre-recall so it locks the bolt, nothing fancy. Hope this helps.

Many of those rifles were rechambered to 308. These rifles were often not marked as 308's.

What kind prices you seeing?
They are kind of a odd thing so the price is reflected as such....
There are shooter grade guns out there but a 722 will never be a real valuable collector like winchesters

I'm seeing $500 + and they arn't real pristine. I think that's way to much for a 722.

The 722 is plain uncommon and if sellers wait someone will buy them eventually. I have had an itch for one in an unusual chambering for a long time and just cannot do it for the prices when SA 700s are available.

My local store has one on the shelf. It looks to be in decent shape with a decent price tag. Shoot me a PM if interested and I'll give you there contact info.

I've never paid more that $350 for any of the dozens of 722s in 222, 244, 257, and 300 that I've owned, just keep looking.

Must be the different parts of the country we run in. I spend lots of times at gunshows and have barely seen dozens of 722s.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a 722.

the .300 Savage cartridge was a great idea in the original length 99 Savage rifle. And it may have had some appeal as a bolt action right up til the day the .308 was introduced. If I were in the market for a bolt rifle today I'd look for something else.

Actually, I think 260Remguy converted them all to .30/284.

Apparently the cool factor is completely lost on you.

Not at all. I think the 99 Savage was and is the coolest hunting rifle ever built. My pre-mil .300 savage is stocked for irons and wears a foolproof peep. Have now taken a number of deer with it and absolutely love it.

I bought the rifle from another 'fire member in 2003. It is also my son's favorite deer rifle.

But so many ignore the cool factor of the .308. Why they don't get it is beyond me. It is the perfect SA catridge for a .30 cal bolt rifle.

I converted one to 30-284 to do load development for my 99C in 30-284, but decided that the bump in performance wasn't worth the effort so I pulled the barrel and recycled the action, #1375xx, as a 25-284. I found this 722 in the old GUNLIST and paid J&N Pawn in West Valley City, UT, $250 back in 2002. I ALWAYS restamp/over-stamp the factory roll stamps on a barrel that I've rechambered. Bearrr264 had the cheeks of a stock on a Savage 99 blow out when he fired a 300 Savage cartridge in a barrel that had been rechambered to 308, but not restamped.

When I was getting my MBA back in the mid-1980's, I made pocket money by converting 722s in 222 and 300 Sav to 20" barrel carbines for guys who wanted 600/660s, but didn't want to pay the asking prices. I sold my 722 carbines for $250 without a front sight or $275 if I installed a Williams ramp front sight.

I totally get the cool factor of the .308 Win. It's probably my favorite cartridge. Unless the .300 Savage is. I flip flop on those two. I was just razzing you earlier.

I actually discovered the 'fire in 2002 while looking online for 99 Savage, in .300 Savage. Had always wanted one just like an uncles that I used a bit as a kid.

I traded a M700 .35 Whelen for a M700 Classic in .300 Savage for my daughter. I could have got a .308 for her but I was offered a .300 Savage first. I don't regret the decision to go with the .300 Savage, and if I were looking for another I'd buy another Classic and spend around $800 +/- to get one.
