My wife came in last night and said we've got a wasps nest on the window. Actually it's between the screen and the window. In other words, I would have to open the window to take the screen out. I've not been around wasps much so, instead of opening the window so the wasps can get in, and I take the screen off, how would you approach this? The window is a slider and NOT a crank out. Nest is right on the inside edge so just sliding the window would let them have access to the room.

Blast them through the screen with wasp spray, then open the window to remove screen, dead bugs, and hose the screen and window off.

Wait until it's dark and they are essentially inactive. Open screen/window, envelop nest in a stout paper/plastic bag, and pull it and its inhabitants down. Sprays etc often discolor the surrounding finish on window frames.

Or one could simply burn the house down.

Fill spray bottle or garden sprayer with soapy water. Stand outside of window and spray the crap out of the nest and any escaping wasps.
Simple, effective, nontoxic. Soapy water smothers insects.
No need to use expensive, messy, toxic chemicals that then need to be cleaned up.

Cut the screen and replace it...there must be a hole/tear in it somewhere for them to be getting in and out of anyway.

This. Wait til they are not very active unless you can kill them from outside the house. Wait til night or early morning.

In the meantime, just stand there and rap on the glass with your knuckle. It's fun to watch them get all excited with a solid glass between you and them. They always settle down towards nighttime.

as one that has been known to shoot wood rats in the bedroom with a 357 i like the 12 gauge and #9's
actually if you hit them with ether{starting fluid) they are dead instantly. be sure to just spritz them but put out your Havana first.

Watch them and find the hole in the screen that they are using. Then plug the hole with masking tape so they can't escape. Spray them with soapy water to kill them.

Make sure you send someone outside to keep watch on the nest before you begin rapping on the glass from the inside.....much higher entertainment value....

Gun Scrubber works better than Wasp Spray. When Gun Scrubber hits 'em they drop like a brick, and it doesn't rely on the oily base the wasp sprays use. Now, I don't know what Gun Scrubber will do to your paint. Birchwood Casey revised the formula because it was literally melting some plastics that it came into contact with, like injection molded stocks. Now it is safe around any plastic/rubber surface.

I love all the home brew remedies.

Just get some Raid wasp & hornet spray and blast them. You're not trying to give them a bath.

A spray with soapy water works well at night.. Then clean out the nest in the morning.
