I'm running five trail cams and so far, both Whitetails and Mules look healthy with decent numbers. Nothing huge though, a lot of smaller/medium bucks.

I don't always venture out into the sub-freezing darkness, but when I do, it is deer hunting season, and I carry a Remington. Stay hungry my friends.

Sgt5, I don't know how the deer herd is where you reside but let me tell you this. I moved to Saskatchewan four years ago from Quebec. Deer hunting over there is hard, you normally shoot the first deer with antlers you see, it can be a spiker or a big eight, you don't care, you shoot. I've shot a dozen deer in Quebec and most were does or small bucks.

When I moved to Saskatchewan, everyone was telling me how bad it got and that the deer were starting to get better. What I saw my first hunting season made me sh*t bricks. Even at their lowest, the Whitetail population was MUCH better than what I had ever seen in Quebec. Obviously, if you grew up passing anything under 150 inch, your opinion on the deer herd won't be the same as someone who hunted Eastern states/provinces.

If , like me, you come from crappy/pressured deer hunting country, and hunt the forest fringe, you will probably see more quality deer than you have ever seen, even with a smaller herd.

Friends of mine go up every year. It's a family affair.... usually father and 3 sons. They all get deer each trip. I get to see the pictures and the deer, all whitetails, range in size from impressive to monsters. They are hunting tribal lands.

Might never happen. We had a great couple decades the likes of which we hadn't had before and may never see again. That doesn't mean we don't have some big deer but those glory days are gone.

If the tribal lands have a good moose population, I would think the people are eating mostly moose and leaving the deer alone, could that be the case where you're friends go?

Don't get tribal lands confused with some managed for trophy paradise. Shot to hell reserve is more likely.
