When I was a youngster, Remington came up with the 700 Mountain Rifle. It was chambered in various and sundry cartridges, but the greatest of all, was the 7mm/08. I saw my first one in a store called Sports Unlimited in Knoxville, Tennessee. It was several years later, when I had a job of my own and could afford to buy my own hunting rifle, that I set out looking for one. Unfortunately, by that time, Remington decided to build the rifle with a detachable box magazine. That particular set up wasn't appealing to me. In 1998, I happened upon an original floorplate model Remington Mountain Rifle chambered for 7mm/08, and happily purchased it. Unfortunately, it had been sent off to the Remington service center and Magna ported. The rifle was everything I wanted in a hunting rifle, and killed like the finger of God, but it was un-holy loud, owing to the porting. I put up with the ringing in my ears for many years and even loaned the rifle to friends who needed a light kicking deer killer. Many were converted to the tribe of the 7mm/08.
I kept that rifle till the divorce in 2007, and then lost it to the need for groceries. Now they are even more rarely seen.
I've shot all kinds of other rifles and cartridges, and they work too, but I am still a fan of that cartridge in that rifle.
If you have a Remington 700 Mountain Rifle chambered for 7mm/08 with the original floorplate action, I am interested. Let me know if you would be interested in parting with it.
I'll give it a good home.

I didn't even know they chambered them in a 7-08 seen them in 270, 280, 30-06. Have to keep an eye open for you in Alaska.
Then STFU. The rest of your statement is superflous bullshit with no real bearing on this discussion other than to massage your own ego. Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me.

I had one in 7-08. No ports. I liked it plenty well, but if I still had it we could make a deal

Joel....
My favorite has always been the Featherweights from the 70s on...
But Number Two on the list is those 700 Mountain Rifles...
While I'd love a 7/08 in that rifle.... I'd love a 7 x 57 even moreso...
or a 257 Roberts... both of which I have seen...
a 260 Rem wouldn't be a bad addition to life either...

Remington Mountain Rifles are sweet guns. I picked a floor plate model .270 up a few years ago. It's very accurate too.
I probably hit more elk with a pickup than you have with a rifle. I have yet to see anyone claim Leupold has never had to fix an optic. I know I have sent a few back. 2 MK 6s, a VX-6, and 3 VX-111s.

You could get it new for a screaming deal right now w/ SSS (whittaker guns) during their Grand Opening Sale....but I think new ones are are w/ a detachable mag vs/ floor plate. I'm eyeing one in that very caliber right now!

Had one in 7x57, nice looking and handling gun, but I kind of like to hit what I'm shooting at, so I let it go. Had I been able to hit with it, I'd have kept and enjoyed it. Sold it with full disclosure. Turns out it was the shooter, and the new owner was very happy with it.

It would be easy to 'piece' that together and the rifle doesn't care if you or Remington put it in a Mountain Rifle stock.

There is a 270 older model that is absolutely mint at the LGS. He is asking 700 PM me if you need his name and number.

I doubt mine would ever leave the stable, and if it did, you'd have to be 2nd in line behind a certain gentleman from across the pond who called "dibs" on it during our AK adventure. Ah, but you'd likely not be interested, anyway, given that it's chambered for that hokey 7x57 cartridge... Maybe it was the universe working in odd ways, though: I acquired it in 2007 from probably the most well-written 24HC...(courtesy of the late, great Bill Krenz), while yours was being sent out into the world. I did have Karnis sex-up the stock a hair, and now she's so pretty she hides in the safe all too often. Good luck in your search, FC

It would be easy to 'piece' that together and the rifle doesn't care if you or Remington put it in a Mountain Rifle stock. I have pondered that. I have an old 6mm, 700 ADL that sticks to me like $hit to a wool blanket. A barrel and a stock would make that into my old mountain rifle.
