Well done, sir. And congrats to the young man. May you both have many years to hunt together.

the only real difference between a good tracker and a bad tracker, is observation. all the same data is present for both. The rest, is understanding what you're seeing.

There is nothing quite like those moments you have when your kid succeeds, especially when they have their firsts. My 11 yr old boy has hunted with me the last two years and this year was his year to be the tag holder. We got on to the caribou pretty quickly and he took this bull on our second day out. There was one real big bull in the group but he wouldn't step clear of another one that was behind him so my boy decided to take this one and not run the risk of hitting two by accident. I cleared a little shooting lane for him so he could make a prone shot with my .300 and he dropped it in its tracks at 297 yds! I was damn impressed! I'm still grinning ear to ear!! Should make the cover of the Reg. Book 2018 Motion is seconded! Ptarmigan- Please send that pic to F&G when they call for Reg book pics!

Thanks fellas, I'm still beaming today! He used my Tikka .300 wm using 180gr Federal Fusions. I'll tell you that I was a bit apprehensive about letting him take a shot at that distance. He had a real steady rest and kept reassuring me though that the first dot was dead on and not moving. I doubt he'll be asking me to shoot my gun at the range as it has a nasty sharp recoil (which he mentioned after the shot) but he did say he'd use it again if need be. Thanks for the idea about sending the pic to ADF&G. I'll have to find out when they start accepting photos. He'd love that!

Awesome. Sincere congratulations to both you and the lad. I only hope I am able to share such an accomplishment with my young daughter one day.
