Looking for a scope <$400 to sit on top of a Remington 700 .25-06 deer rifle. What would you recommend?

Used, out of production Bushnell 3200-4200, not the current 3500. You want Japanese made. Whatever Weaver that is Japanese made. I can't keep up with current models Natchez usually has cheap Weavers, but I would only buy the Japanese made. Burris Full field II might be a good one too.
Call Doug at Cameraland Ny and see what he has in demo scopes and check SWFA Samplelist but don't just buy something you have never heard of because it's cheap, and don't buy one of the low end Vortex scopes because it has a warranty.Even if they will replace your POS with a new POS, it is still a POS.
Oh and don't let someone talk you into a 6.5-20X. You need to be looking at a 2-7 or 2-10 or 3-10,or 3-9 or possibly 4-12 absolute max.

VX-1 or VX-2 in 2-7 or 3-9. Then you'll have enough money leftover for mounts and rings..........

Bushnell 4200 used or a 4500.

Nothing wrong with a VX3i. The 4.5-14x40 can be had for under that price or just over with the CDS dial. The no questions warranty adds a lot of value to the price

Leupy VXR 3-9x40 Firedot Duplex. Or if you want to spin dials scrape up another $60 and go SWFA 3-9x42 Mil Quad when Black Friday comes.

You did not "seen" anything, you "saw" it. A "creek" has water in it, a "crick" is what you get in your neck. Liberals with guns are nothing but hypocrites.

Leupold 6x36, Leupold 6x42(might be in your budget if you find a deal or used), VX3 3.5-10, VX2 3-9 or 2-7. Lots of good options in your budget.

Meopta from Doug at Cameraland and be done with it. The optics of EVERY Meopta I've looked at is superb.

And you'll have $100 leftover to hire someone to carry it! Actually, I'm very impressed with my SS so far, gross tonnage and all.
