Reran it and got 19 vs 23 ftlbs so the SAUM has 4 lbs more recoil. In the end, what’s hilarious is the idea that 23 ftlbs of recoil is unpleasant. For my 6 year old...maybe. You're completely full of schit. In seeing hundreds of hunters come through hunting camp, I'd venture to say well over 50% of the guys shooting guns that generated much over 20 ft lbs of recoil couldn't handle the recoil, many making poor shots.

A 6.5x284 would be sweet. Or 6.5 or 7mm SAUM Or maybe a 6.5 PRC

Pretty hilarious what guys will argue, when they haven't got a clue.

JBM shows the SAUM at about 1-2% less. I ran it with a 150 IIRC. I ran Nosler max load data for both cases through JBM and the SAUM still shows way more
SAUM 140, 62 powder, 3150mv, 24.3 ft/lb 150 , 62.5 powder, 3050mv , 25.6 ft/lb.
7mm08 140, 49 powder, 2850 mv, 17.9 ft/lb 150, 49.5 powder 2750mv, 18.9 ft/lb 160, 49 powder, 2650mv, 19.4 ft/lb 175, 46 powder, 2550mv 19.9 ft/lb that take into account gun weight? It might be closer if real world weights are used. (of course we don't know what a Barrett Fieldcraft in a magnum caliber would weight) but the different in Kimber Montanas from a 7-08 to a 270WSM is 17 ounces. (5#,2 oz to 6#, 3oz) 20% increase in weight might make a 20% decrease in free recoil... probably brings ya'lls calculations alot closer together. Ya'll are probably both right =] just a thought

I've always been well above average. I guess a 7lb 270 Win with a punishing 21.2 lbs of recoil is just too much to handle for most of your crew. Fortunately, the bottom 50% isn't the likely customer for this rifle. Recoil Input Data Charge Weight: 59.0 gr Muzzle Velocity: 3124.0 ft/s Firearm Weight: 7.0 lb Bullet Weight: 130.0 gr Output Data Recoil Velocity: 13.9 ft/s Recoil Energy: 21.2 ft•lbs Recoil Impulse: 3.0 lb•s Once again, back to OT, a 280 AI Fieldcraft would be the epitome of performance in the current envelope. Action: Done Barrels: Already in production Stock: Done. Pick a paint color if you'd like. Order the reamer and here we go. Then again, the crushing recoil of the cartridge may be too much for some. I'd like to see anything on the SA but with the same barrel contour as the LA (a no.2-ish) rather than the 21" no.1 they currently use. I'd own one, but not the way it's currently configured.
Make it a 23" no.2 contour, 1-8" 6.5 Creedmoor and I'm a buyer...

Factory ammo is showing up for the 6.5 PRC; at least at GA Precision. No one makes a light version "off the shelf" yet...

I believe the PRC is a magnum case head?...which would leave it out until Barrett starts producing a short mag action.

Barrett could beat Hornady and Ruger to the punch and introduce a 6.5 PRC. Or the 7mm Creedmoor Gotta admit that's genius thinking David... Don't know why anyone would want a 7/08 in a 3" box anyhow. That'd be so 2005ish.... Josh, Welcome back to dogging my posts! Missed you! Hell, you might even be right. With a case base to shoulder of 1.56" on the 7mm-08 and a bullet length of 1.54 on a 180 ELD-X, a 3" box would make a 7mm Creedmoor mute in a Barrett. well done! Sure thing sweetheart, sorry to keep you waiting....I can hear the sand grinding in your mangina from here. The 7GPC, SAC's version...WTF you wanna call it has been running since what, 2010-2011? I've shot with 1 or 2 guys that ran them.... Know what they say? It aint worth the time/labor in brass prep, etc for ZERO gains over the 7/08. I'll easily go 7 SAW if I want to improve on the 7/08 in a 3" box, binderless mag, etc. BUT...I bet if you stomp your feet loud enough and get them guys at OUTDOOR LIFE to write up an article in a rag, Barrett might just see the light. ESP for a limited quantity, special run rifle... XOXOXO

That 6.5 PRC in a Barrett with a 23” barrel would be very hard for me to not buy. Tolerable recoil, really slippery bullets. You could hunt a lot with that. The article stated that a 147 at 2910 was not much more than the 6.5 Creed shooting a 140 at 2800. Apples to oranges. Using the same 143 ELD-X and Hornady ammo, the PRC is 2960 and the Creed is 2700.

The suggestions in the other thread prompted this thread. I spoke with them a while back about this and they actually suggested I put this on here. I've been too busy to start another project, but the timing is better now.
You guys interested in a special run of Barrett Fieldcrafts?
They already told me they'd do it with a few limitations. It would have to be right handed. Special stock color, special barrel contour and maybe cut-rifled? Something they already chamber or something that could be done with minimal modifications would be on the table.
Let's hear some thoughts and we'll go from there. I'll communicate with them discussing possibilities and they'll be following this thread.
Whatcha want?? A "Left hand" in .250/3000.....likely in 3 or 4 years before the production time is available for a left-hand bolt.
