Hello just joined today! You all seem to know a lot about a lot!! So I have a finished at 24 shilen 1-14 twist barrel sitting here from a build I had done a few years ago a 358 Hoosier! Now that we in Indiana can hunt with about anything I'm thinking about reaming it to neck up 300wsm to 358! But my only concern is does a rem 700 short action have enough coal room to load 200 gr nosler accubonds or Barnes 200 ttsx with out the ogive of the bullet being down in the neck of brass so far you have to role crimp?? Or will what bullets you guys shoot with best luck? And what powders an any guys have a load sheet or any advice on this I'd love to talk about it!! The 200 gr accubond I loved in the 358 Hoosier! Thanks for any advice!

I used to load for a 358 WSM. It was built on a Model 70 originally chambered for a 7 WSM and had plenty of mag. space. Still have the barrel. It shot 225 partitions well but recoil was sharp. The most accurate load was 72.5 grains of R-17 for 2950 fps. That's not published or tested data so start low and work up.

Base to ogive length was 2.340" if that helps any.

I'd thought about re-chambering my 350 rem mag to a 35 wsm, but IMHO the 350 rem mag has all the recoil I want in a medium weight medium bore and I figure 225's @ 2700 fps are all that I need for what I use the rifle for.

Having had a 35 whelen ackley and 350 Rigby I'd expect RL 15, Varget and similar burning rate powders to be the best choice for the round.

my .350WSM is on a M70, but it should work in a SA M700.

.350 RM on the left, .350WSM on the right

I think you better check with your action first, the Hoosier is based off the .308 (.478") cartridge and of course the .358 wsm or Sambar is based off the .532" cartridge.
You would need to have to bolt face opened up to accommodate that and need to consider the feed rails.
Might be better off looking for a SA magnum action.

24" barrel. I can't remember if I tried 4350. Like 458 said above 2700 fps with a 225 is plenty good.

Well that's a good idea.
I have a .358 wssm which I was considering making into a .358 wsm but can't/won't until indiana let's me use whatever rifle I want on public land.
I need it for the special military/state parks hunts.
In the meantime I will use my other rifles on my private land.

I have a 358 Hoosier as well, loading with the 180 TTSX, 200 Accubond and 200 Interlock. If Indiana ends up changing the rifle laws permanently, I'll probably just have it reamed out to a standard 358 Winchester. Just a lot of trouble trimming the 358 Win brass down to 1.80"...

All I'm saying is, don't go chasing extra speed, you won't need it with those bullets. Go for accuracy!

My 358 wssm shoots the 225 accubond at a hair over 2400 fps and it's lethal on deer big time.

If you have a WSM case trimmed to the right length you can line up the 200 AB and eyeball it easily enough. I don't have any of those bullets but my loaded rounds with the 225 partition are 2.910 OAL and the partition has about 0.150" of the bearing surface outside the case mouth so those would work.
