Pretty amazing what just a change in ammo can do. My 30-06 M98 is highly accurate (sub MOA) with what I've been using in it - factory Corelokts and lately, Hornady SST and GMX Superperformance (both) , all in 150 gr. All of them give me similar group sizes, the Hornadys marginally better than the Remington load.
The SSTs print a bit higher at 300 yards than the Corelokts. I don't remember how much - it's been a couple years and I lost that cell phone with the info on it. About 4 inches, anda bit to one side IIRC. Which I may not.
The GMX show a LOT of difference over the SST's at 300 yards however, which surprised me a bit. Yesterday I fired 5 rounds at 302 yards before the wind/storm hit, the first being an SST for base-line, then two, 2-shot groups with the GMX, with a scope calibrating adjustment between them. The first GMX duo put 2 holes in the paper, 3/4 inch apart center to center, 8 inches higher and 6 inches right of the SST. The second 2-shot "group" to check parameter of scope adjustment markings, printed 1/2" between hole centers.
Before I could go farther it started in with a wet snow and gusts, so I quit to keep the rifle dry. Have to go back in better weather and check-fire the scope changes I later made at home, based on the second GMX group to make sure of my POI. Just for grins, I'll try some factory Fed 180 Power-Shock loads I have on hand also. Can't have too much data....
The SST's have been working fine on caribou out to 433 yards so far at about the same range as did the Corelokts (pre rangefinder) , but I'm eager to see how the GMX perform.
