You know those redneck weather/wind gauges, basically a rope hanging from a post? If anywhere in Oregon were fitting for one it'd be Burns. Helps keep the riff raff out. North of there a bit at Seneca the lowest recorded temperature in an Oregon town was made: - 54F....

All I can tell you about Burns, after going thru there many times over the last 22 years....

it sure is a long way from a lot of other places...

While passing thru there, I highly recommend you Fill your gas tank...

and probably hit McDonalds and get something to eat.....

and enjoy one of the more smaller Mac's I've ever seen...

From what I have seen of Burns, Mac's is probably one of the better restaurants in town...

if you want to get away from the world and disappear off the grid... Burns is a great choice...

The population is about 2800, 4500 if you include Hines which adjoins Burns. It's 130 miles to Bend and 130 to Ontario. Those are the nearest towns that are larger.

Burns seemed like a very nice town when I stayed there and beautiful country.

I stopped there with a fire truck one time and shouldn't have but that's another story.

I have never before heard Burns called beautiful, and I love the desert.

A leading factor in my labeling Burns as God's Country. The highways go through the least interesting parts of the Oregon Desert, though, generally speaking. Especially if someone just drove over from Bend and went back, they'd not a clue... Thankfully. Within a couple hours of Burns there's a lot of great country. And tens of millions of acres of our public land (ok add three or four hours driving fast). But the hunting sucks, wink wink.

Between OR, ID, & NV, there's a mind boggling lot of public land out there and 99.9% of the public has no idea what's there.

Yep - and the largest block of unoccupied (no permanently occupied residences) land in the lower 48 starts just a look or two from Burns.

I agree, the area around Burns is beautiful and varied with lots of things to do outdoors. The town itself is not spectacular but I'm sure that like most other places in Eastern Oregon, there are plenty of nice folks living there.

All within an easy drive, or maybe more, from the greater Burns-Hines metropolitan area.

I was out there the day after the cops shot Lavoy Finicum...

There were cops from all over Oregon out there.. plus plenty of FEDS...

The turned the Town Hall into a fortress....

Wasn't a nice place to be on that day...
