Another vote for the Spyderco Sharpmaker. It's idiot proof for those of us that can't free-hand sharpen on a flat stone. The optional diamond sticks are worth the cost.

Work Sharp, Ken Onion edition is cheating. And I have a lot of different sharpening systems, including the Edge Pro Apex and a handful of good stones.

I have used Arkansas stones, ceramic rods, diamond rods, etc., for years with good results. The best method I have found is a cheap Harbor Freight 1" belt sander with a variety of different grit sandpapers. Finish with a leather belt with dressing. Or use various grit sandpapers mounted on rubber mouse pad attached to a board. Finish with leather mounted on boards using green, black/gray, and white polishing compound. Gets a scary sharp convex edge on it.Here is how to do it: Convex Sharpening

WorkSharp if I need to establish an edge. Ceramic rods for touch-ups which happens a LOT more often for me than does true sharpening. Regarding ceramic rods, IMO, longer the better, especially for getting the tip sharp.

If your looking for a razor sharp edge; get a razor. If you want an edge, a working edge, for using on game and other knife work, you want a "toothy" edge. Razor sharp edges are to fragile and will dull quickly.

Another vote for the Work Sharp. It works quickly and is very effective. It may be cheating, but it really works. Then in the field I use a small diamond and leather strip I keep on my back pack. I also use the top edge of my truck window for a quick clean up.

I have a set of paper wheels mounted on a grinder, lansky, and most gadgets ever patented. The paper works great for uber sharp in a hurry with the least material removed. The latest favorite is the ceramic, carbide combo from cammilus for in field touch ups.
I would not buy something that runs on any kind of primer given the possibility of primer shortages and even regulations. In fact, why not buy a flintlock? Really. Rocks aren't going away anytime soon.

paper wheels but mostly Havalon Piranta ( or I guess its copies are the same too). Having taken apart a few moose with one, it does all I need and sharpens in a few seconds...
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

The Rada thing works on kitchen knives. I haven’t tried it on a hunting knife.

I have an OLD two sided sharpening stone my grandfather gave me more than 40 years ago. It has a fine and a course side. I don't use the course side very often at all, unless putting a new bevel on a kitchen knife.
That fine side keeps my blades razor sharp.
With anything, you just need to know how to put an edge on something. No guides, just have sharpened enough knives in my life that I know where the bevel needs to be, and how to get it even.
I do use a leather strop if I want a really finished edge.
