Its also interesting to muse that I can't think of a single thing his detractors have added to the fire.

Sharing a similar thought.^2

In my 3-1/2 years here, Ive never had to use the ignore button, but I have ignored some threads once a food fight started. I cant figure out why some people cant seem to do that if they dont like what they see, but, oh well. Some of his posts seemed over the top, and appeared to be tolerated and even defended when similar posts by others would not have been, but that sometimes is a fringe benefit of bringing so much to the table in other areas that its worth it from a big-picture standpoint. I didnt read the offending thread, but it sounds like the principal needed to step in because the kids couldnt moderate themselves. Too bad it had to come to that, and Ill miss him. But, banishment from an Internet forum aint exactly death, and we shouldnt act like this is a funeral. I doubt the departed is sitting around crying.

A REAL man knows when he is wrong and takes his licks accordingly...Stick got his. It is too little, too late for all his wannabe groupies to croon a sad song of woe, and frankly, it is more than a little boring.

It is pathetic to see all the followers muttering sorrowful lamentations after the fact, when perhaps a word to the wise before hand, from someone inside his circle of admirers might have prevented the entire fisaco from occurring...

Let it go and move on.

Honestly I thought he was some jerk just trying to piss off the regulars.
That is until he started to discuss rifles, shooting & hunting.
He proceeded to post up the most god awfully big Sitka Blacktails that I've ever seen.
As an avid big game hunter as well as a salmon steelhead freak,It appeared that I was the only one there that recognized his brilliance in the hunting & shooting department as he was quickly banned from the site.
To this day, if you go to that site and bring up his name, you will get everyone talking.
Definitley one of a kind.

I'll miss Stick's post. But the bright side is that some of us may save some money with him gone. I joined this forum less than 4 years ago as a custom virgin. Stick probably influenced me to spend about $30K on custom guns and reloading equipment. It's too late for me as I am hooked on the "custom crack," but maybe some newbies will not be lost to the addiction.

Yet you continue to post in the thread.

Maybe you don't realize that right or wrong - some of us considered him either a friend in the very real sense or a "cyber" friend - someone who was good for advice and a chuckle or general shooting the schitt.

I been here 4 years (if you count 11 posts under another handle starting 1/1/03). I miss the man's writings and knowledge. I been here long enough to know the guy a bit. We pm bs-ed several times about a number of topic - not counting what was public here.

YOU are bored - fine - ignore this thread.

Right or wrong the fire lost a long time, knowledgable member and he will be missed by those that benifited from his help.

I can only saw that for me - my time will surely decrease here -- I know of his other hangouts - fine with me to talk with the guy.

boy, i hate to throw in my 2 cents but i'm gonna:
"he will be missed by those that benifited from his help."
when was the last time the stickster offered helpful advice - without attitude?
the ratio of helpful advice to smug comments in recent months flip-flopped.
an example is his reply of "junk, in a clean sweep ..." to okbowman's query about some mid-level binocs that were not classics. ok - being painfully polite - asked for an explanation. he didn't get one.
another example: weagle's request for advice on righting the wrongs done to a used sako he had picked up. stick basically called weagle an idiot for not figuring out the fix himself, coyly suggesting he knew the answer but was holding it back.
that had become stick's standard, fellas.
weagle is NOT wcb or ihonda (no insult intended). the fellow on the optics thread was brand new and absolutely not a troll.
hey, i wouldn't even own a remington if not for stick's advice. but man, the price for advice in recent months ...
this whole situation is just so sad ...

I can only go with what he did for me -- I asked him for explainations on several topics - usually in a pm. I got helpful answers in return. Nothing he has ever helped me with has not turned out exactly as he said it would. Yes he didn't suffer fools gladly but had his standards and expected others to follow. Right or wrong - dunno but IME he was a good guy.

He did seem to change a bit when hit hit the slope but we have all changed.

I wonder how many forums Stick has been kicked out of. As he would say, you make your own luck!

Ain't threatening to leave - simply that one of the things that made this place enjoyable is now gone. Typicaly when things become less fun - I stop doing them as much, thats all.....
