I bought a .30-06 Featherweight whose stock looked similar to the above rifle, I used GB Linspeed and my finished stock looked really nice. Best part was I bought the rifle for $730.00 because of the condition of the stock, a jar of Linspeed cost less than $10.00 and a few hours of my time and I have a handsome rifle to hunt with.

This gun will only get hunted on the dry side of Washington in nice weather!
Regarding moisture, I did use the Dem-Bart oil on the inside of the stock as well, and also waxed that up too. It's probably more weather "resistant" than "proof" honestly.
I'd like to try a spar varnish on a less collectible gun for a stronger, more waterproof finish. There are plenty of heated threads here on that topic.....

And only a few that actually have a clue what they are talking about...

Many conversations with John Kay when he had "Winchester Restorations" left me doing a first year(36) production 70 in 30-06 as he instructed. His original Pre 64 oil is available here: http://homesteadparts.com/shopcart/pid_1782.htm The instructions are available for the asking so you can see what you`re getting into. It ain`t fast and it ain`t easy but it would be the only way I would do one that I truly cared about. Tru-oil,linspeed and the many other preperations out there have there place but if you are looking to do one that will pass the most critical eye as "original" then this is the way to go. PM me your email or text# and Ill send you some photos of the result on my 70. Joe

Seeing what worked for others on here and trying it yourself is half of the fun! http://dembartco.com/finishes.htm
