Just got off the phone with Nosler technician about the partition, his response was don't use the 150 gr partition on small, light weight WTs. The 150 is a rather tough bullet designed for heavier deer or elk. He recommended 140 bts or his 2nd choice the ,140 Accubond. The 150 will kill but a lack of animal body mass will cause the bullet to not expand as designed, which is approximately 2 times bullet diameter.
If the 7mm, 150gr NPT is designed for elk, I wonder what the heck are the 160's and 175's designed for--Beluga Whales?

In the early 90's I went to Alaska with a 30-06 AI shooting 200gr NPT's, killed a moose and a caribou. Came home and with the same load killed a pronghorn, two elk, and a buck weighing maybe 170lbs. Worked like every other NPT.
The heavier for caliber NPT's that I have sectioned appear to have the partition further forward by a skosh. But the front jacket thickness looks to be the same when compared to lighter bullets of the same caliber.

I’ve seen more than one experience like yours with premium bullets, especially on our small Texas deer. I use cup and core exclusively (mainly Sierras and Hornadys) and I thInk one is better off with these plain Jane bullets, especially with behind-the-shoulder shots. Just two days ago I shot a small Hill Country doe with a 160 GameKing. Impact velocity was about 2700 fps. I shot her too far back (I’m embarrassed to admit) and hit stomach. Nonetheless she just turned in a circle and crashed where she was. No way to know for sure, but I’m not positive she wouldn’t have made it a ways if I’d used a premium bullet.
Only a fool would sell an accurate .30-06

I shot a little Texas whitetail with a 130 gr Partition at 2950 fps muzzle velocity, ranged 185 yards. The bullet entered the shoulder and exited the mid chest & hit straight into the dirt below him. It did not even penetrate more than halfway. This is not an indictment of the Partition on the whole. I'm just pointing out that bullets, any bullet, can do strange things completely unexpected at times.

Alpinecrick, there is a LOT of difference in a 80 lb wt doe and the animals you shot!!!!!
