PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. — Prescott Valley is offering a $500 reward for the safe return of Police Chief Bryan Jarrell’s missing handgun.

The department’s announcement of the reward follows its earlier disclosure that Jarrell said he last had the gun on Nov. 9 but didn’t realize it was lost until four days later.

According to Jarrell, he accidentally left the handgun in a restroom stall while he was changing clothes. He had just finished attending a town council meeting at the Prescott Valley Public Library.

“As chief of police, I take full responsibility for my negligent actions that resulted in the misplacing of my service weapon,” Jarrell said Tuesday in a post on the department’s Facebook page. “I have never experienced this type of incident in my 33-year career.”

Town Manager Larry Tarkowski said the incident is under investigation and declined to comment on whether the chief could face disciplinary action.

“It would be premature to go ahead and really get into a discussion about that,” Tarkowski said. But he acknowledged there would likely be “repercussions.”

He added that Jarrell has always been a “stellar” officer.

The department-issued handgun is a black, Glock 19 9mm. The serial number is YHC 944.

The department says anyone with information about the missing handgun can contact Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232. blush

Misplacing the gun is not my worry, it could happen to anyone, what worries me is he didn't realize it for 4 freaking days!

Prescott valley p.d. has had it's issues. Bias with a former chief that came out of the n.e. was he was not gun friendly. which is funny in what is based in prescott like ruger, wolfe publishing, J&G, any number of custom builders. Not to far back they got all hot and bothered with photo radar. They were not so hot and bothered when it leaked out some of the barneys were fixing those tickets for friends and relatives. Then their was a small matter of a fight in a local bar of a biker group, the biker group being law enforcement officers, that later lied when questioned about it. P.V. has kind of a small problem with meth, black tar heroin, and other things including gang activity. Good guess as to where that gun is now.
El Jefe mentioned he didn't normally carry a gun when off duty. Really. When I was playing deputy dawg in the same area any certified officer was required on duty or off duty to respond to certain felonies and could be held liable for not doing it. Can't imagine stating he didn't carry a gun off duty.

“It would be premature to go ahead and really get into a discussion about that,” Tarkowski said.

Why?
The Police Chief has made his statement about the event.
What other events need to occur in order for it to be discussed?

Either Glock 19s weigh a lot less lately or the chief is a lot fatter than most.

As a past officer, if a patrol officer had lost or even "misplaced" their service weapon, we would have been fired for sure. For the CHIEF to have done so, and then not noticed or said anything for FOUR days???? I carried a glock 17 on duty <was department issued>, Now use a glock 19 as an every day carry, and yes, I know when I do not have it on my person. I say there is more to this story.

"Prescott Valley is offering a $500 reward for the safe return of Police Chief Bryan Jarrell’s missing handgun."

“As chief of police, I take full responsibility for my negligent actions that resulted in the misplacing of my service weapon,”

These two statements seem to be at odds.

It's on the border, being used against our ice agents.
