Blind mags get gummed up, detachable mags get lost, floorplates pop open.

I'd hate to get a bunch of rocks in a tube mag. That'd be a B

Blind mag with Mauser action? No mag to lose, no floorplate to pop open, and a little pine straw would just tighten up the tolerances?

I'm glad I am not a serious hunter. All of my field mishaps have been self inflicted operator error. However, if one of my rifles ever does tear up in the field, I'll just go back to the house and get another one. laugh

LOL, I've known a few serious hunters, but no rifles that were more than "a little intense."

Putting meat in the freezer has apparently became so complicated and wrought with dangers, mishaps and equipment failures that I think I'll throw in the towell and become a vegan. Anyone know what the best carbon fiber and titanium garden hoe is?

carbon fiber and titanium are for amateurs, any serious garden hoes are made from kevlar and stainless.

16 - I believe you are being sarcastic or facetious, no problem,

However on the serious side, I must be one of the luckiest hunters/shooters on earth.
There are so many problems and failures mentioned here on the fire that I've never had OR seen by numerous companions.

Never lost a detachable mag, 10-22, 788, Tikka T 3, 760 or Model Sixes and others I can't remember. I bought a 5 round mag for my T 3-- never used it.

Never had a floorplate pop open. I know it has happened, just not to me. I've had more floorplates than all the others.

Never had a bolt handle fall/break off. I have had more 700s than all others.

Now back to the Tikka:
........ I don't know why exactly but I've always liked and prefer a detachable magazine. Now some of the double stacked ones are wider than I prefer plus I've gotten used to the 3 rd single stack.

I just thank my Lucky Stars.

I think rifle conversations with 12 year olds is more interesting.

I"m with jwall. I've never had any of that crap happen to me, ever, in 46 yrs of chasing big game animals all over the place, including never having a push feed fail to feed or extract. I have no use for blind mags either.

J -

I began deer hunting in 1972 (this is my 46th season) but I began squirrel - rabbit hunting as a kid with my Dad.

Even tho I have a couple or so blind mags they are my least prefered. I prefer the availability of getting into the mag well w/o disassembling the rifle. I have rarely USED the hinged floorplate as it was designed BUT it's nice to have the open port whenever you want/need.

I don't want to pass judgement on anyone. It SEEMS to me that some of these so called taboo features are the result of INexperienced or INcompetent users. Some time back a poster complained about the 3 position safety on the M 70. He said IT cost him an elk. Having the safety all the way back, when he wanted to shoot he pushed the wing forward ONCE and the gun DIDN'T shoot !!!! (imagine that)

He asked about an 'aftermarket' option for that safety.

I replied - after consideration - "There is no aftermarket fix for operator error".

Ill add to that list as well. I've never had a non locking bolt come open or out of battery. I prefer my m700s not to lock. Just my personal preference. Maybe if I'd had a dozen or so problems with it,I'd feel different.

I guess i am another of the lucky few who has owned/used rifles with all three magazine designs and have had zero issues. My favorite is the detachable mag system with the blind mag system being My very distant third and least preferred.....To each his own but beware of the dreaded pine needle if you choose a rifle with a blind magazine!....lol.....Hb

While I have never seen a blind magazine fail to function for at least two shots that I can recall; I have seen more than several magazines lost.

I have also seen more than a few bottom metal malfunctions.

Give me the blind magazine every time.

I had a 270 WSM and 270 WIn that were fine, but evidently 270 anything doesn't count.
