Yes, copper kills trees very effectively.

Drill a hole at an angle below ground, fill with round up. Works in the roots too if neighbor has tree next to your fence and you get tired of his leaves falling in your yard!!

Hanco: I learned of a similar method of tree-icide decades ago when I was called to investigate the intentional killing of three large evergreen trees on a citizens property!
The owner of the trees did his own chemical analysis of a substance found in the holes drilled near the base of his dead/dying trees and it turned out to be "Drano"!
Apparently a hole drilled deep into a tree and filled with crystal Drano (the old style stuff) will indeed kill even very large (tall!) trees.
In the decades since I have heard of other people killing trees by this method - stands to reason that "Round-Up" would kill a tree as well.
Some may not know that falling a living tree on ones own property (let alone the neighbors property!) is illegal in some jurisdictions without prior approval from a "government agency"?
Anyway I have investigated many "tree fellings" of the type where the "perp" simply waits for his neighbor to go on vacation or leave for the weekend and the "offending" tree(s) are felled by a quick surreptitious application of chainsaw blades!
Use caution when applying this method to neighbors property as hard feelings and lawsuits usually follow.

If you have to get government approval to cut down a tree in your yard, it's time for tar and feathers at city hall.

My brother used to live in Portland where the view counts for a lot. There have been neighborhood wars over trees blocking someone's view. He knew someone who lived on a hill with 3 large pines in the front yards. People behind them complained about the trees blocking their view. One time while he was out of town, someone girdled all 3 trees.

I do know that when you have problem trees or bushes that keep wanting to sprout back around your yard, you can run a wood-boring bit down deep in the stump, fill it with Roundup concentrate, and put a bucket over the stump so it can soak for a while. I've not had one come back from that.

If a copper nail will kill a tree then a jacketed bullet should do the same. I've not see that.

Best to drill the holes below ground, where they can’t be seen. He should have done one tree at a time. Three at once kinda suspicious.

I don't know if they'll kill trees but I'll bet they'll kill a bandsaw blade. I know if I put a new blade on my sawmill I'm almost guaranteed to hit a nail on the next cut. I'm betting copper nails, while a little softer, would still screw up a new blade.

I was cutting up an old oak tree at an old ranch headquarters not long ago and found a 60d nail DEEP inside it, with my chainsaw. frown

Tree had grown over the nail completely long ago, but it was still shiny and strong enough to ruin a brand new chain.

I found a buried section of woven wire in an old dead ash tree last Sunday.

Not a good sound.

Never found any copper nails but I've pulled a bunch of heavy copper ground wire and copper staples off old power poles.

I'm praying some RoundUp applied to cuts around an aspen trunk will take it out. Grown quite weary of fighting aspen suckers that emerge in the yard.

A cheap metal detector can be a good investment.
