If by "Big Bores" you mean 45/70s on up then you are sadly mistaken. With a scope any decently sccurate 45/70 , 450 Marlin etc is a 300 yard rifle with a scope ahooting high velocity loads.

In the pistol cals like 460 and 454 Casull etc they have the power and accuracy potential to be sure 200 yard killers with a scope. At least the range of a modern scoped muzzleloader pushing the same slugs at the same velocities .

Ruger wont build a full octagon barrel so I did it myself in 7MM/08 about five years ago [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

I’m surprised the 444 Marlin cartridge hasn’t been run.

I agree. Always thought it would be a logical choice.

And it’s the only reason I’m hanging on to about 6 boxes of 444 ammo!

You might not have to wait long. I have a K1S at my local gunsmith for a new barrel in 444 Marlin, which means that odds are Ruger will offer a 444 right about the time I write a check for mine, probably sometime early next year. I say this because it happened to me a few years ago with a 1S that I had rebarreled to 35 Whelen. Within a couple weeks of getting it home, the 35W 1S came out.

I built a 458x2” American based on a Ruger 77 Mark II short action and a Ruger No.3 45/70 take off barrel resulting in an ‘all Ruger parts’ 458 American.
Two months later Marlin & Hornady announced the new 450 Marlin 🙄

i have a #1 in 405 Winchester it's a great rifle and an excellent cartridge. I doubt that Ruger will bring out a 444 Marlin as there's the 405 and 45/70. not that's it's not a good idea mind you.

I have the same (stainless laminate) No.1 in 405 Win. Great shooter and very accurate. Not many 405 ‘fans’ out there however IMO. This one loves Barnes Triple X bullets.
I think the 444 Marlin and at least one of the short 35s (35 Rem & 358) are sadly overlooked potential No.1 candidate cartridges.

After all the bashing of the no 1 in 450 marlin does anyone here actually have one? I would like to know likes or dislikes from actual experience with this rifle.

I would like to hold one to feel the balance. Looks a bit ugly (unbalanced) in pictures but my 475 Linebaugh No.1 feels pretty good in the hands despite the 20” barrel.
I let my 458x2 American Ruger 77 go a dozen+ years ago. If I saw a No.1 in 450 Marlin with really nice walnut and not crazy priced, I’d probably not be able to resist becoming poorer in the few minutes it would take to acquire it!
