Upgraded the stock from the Hogue over molded to a Volquartsen factory laminated. Went to the range last weekend, 9 shots at 50 yards. The flyer to the left was my error. Shoots well, will be great when I make it to shoot prairie dogs in June.

A beautiful rifle and nice shooting too. Mine is a Ruger 77-22mag with the ported 17HMR from Volquartsen , they sure have the 17 figured out! I need to stock up a few more of it's favorite ammo for the coming season!

Thanks colodog! I need to add more of this A17 CCI ammo. Factory recommended and it does shoot well.

Dghuppert: I have never owned a Volquartsen in 17 HMR but I have shot and Hunted with at least 10 different models that my various friends have owned. I have never seen one "jam" or fail to function. And to their accuracy, like your grouping shows, they are stellar. One of my friends, who has owned several Volquartsen 17 HMR's, two year ago bought one with the carbon fiber wrapped barrel - I never got to shoot that one as he traded it off saying the accuracy quickly disappeared? I have seen him shoot 500 rounds while Ground Squirreling in ONE day (several times this) without cleaning so take that for what it is worth. Anyway he sold it off and bought another heavy stainless barrel version. Your Rifle is especially great looking with that laminated stock. If (when!) I get one I will certainly opt for that stock. VarmintGuy, thanks for the comments and insight. I have one of their rifles with the carbon fiber barrels and built a 10/22 with another. Both in 22lr. So far they shoot well.

Dghuppert: More super cool rimfires! Thanks for sharing. How do you like the Vortex brand (line) of scopes - I have been thinking about trying one on a Colony Varmint Rifle? TIA Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

I like the Vortex scopes a lot. I have a few and they seem to perform well. My favorite is the Bushnell Elite 4200/4500. I think they are the best value in a riflescope. You can pay much more but don’t gain much. Especially the 4-16x, incredible glass and lifetime warranty if needed. Have 5 of them and 2 of the 6-24x. It helps that I can get them at the factory outlet store in KC.
