Any of you guys ever played with a 25/35 Ackley? What can you get out of one for velocity? How does it do as a 100 yard or less deer round?

Since the .25-35 is a pretty dandy deer cartridge I don't see why the AI version wouldn't be also.

my bucket list.

i shoot the caliber in a T/C; probably my favorite caliber for that one...started with it several years ago in a 15" pistol barrel, then later ended up with both 22" and 24" rifle barrels also.

Barnes 80gr TTSX will run a touch over 3000fps with fine accuracy from Reloder15, and kills stuff really well....pretty much duplicates .250savage.

Have shot assorted 87's at around 2900fps, and Nosler 100BT's will hit 2750-2800, , so its got plenty of pep for stuff past 100 yards...after i started killing stuff with the barnes 80's, they worked so well at that speed i just stuck with 'em.

There's one for sale right now on GB, not mine
The only advantage over 250 would be their 1:10 twist, which handles 115g pills. I think if I were building a 99 quarter-bore wildcat, it would be a fast twist 250AI.

I wonder if you might have to do a bit of rotor work to get the 25-35AI to feed properly in a Savage 99.

There is a Francis Sells article in an early/mid 1980's Gun Digest annual about his version of the 25-35AI that he called the 257 Tomcat.

I remembered that Francis Sells used to be a big advocate of 25\35 improveds.

I've been sitting on the brass and dies for a 250AI for years now, thinking about one in a 99. I once had a Ruger tang safety bolt gun in one.

I had a 99CD in 250AI, but decided that I wanted more speed and rechambered it to 25-284. Yet another rifle that I never get around to shooting.

I wonder how a quick twist 6-284 would do?

Same idea as a .25 Bullberry Improved I think. There's some load info on this variant on Bullberry's web site: https://www.bullberry.com/bullberry-cartridge-loading-data

I've got a 6\284 I built on a Model 7 action that I made a magazine box for and opened the action for full length cases. 95 gr Nosler Partitions will smack a deer. Think 240 Weatherby + 100 or so fps.
