Congrats! Great find!
Sometimes even a blind dog finds a bone - thus I keep searching. Yup, you bump into enough coffee tables sooner or later you're going to end up in some starlets pad for the night. Figuratively speaking of course. Sometimes dumb luck trumps savvy and preparation.

BTW, this is how you turn a $1200 rifle into a $600 rifle for those wanting to go that route! I don't know what it did for the PE to get the correct # stock back on it, hopefully it offsets the loss on the F huh? Oh well, it's all fun and games in the end.

I rember turning down a CE with the wood case for $800.00 thinking at the time it was a bit Brite for a hunting rifle!

There's one going on gunbroker right now for $2490, and prices have come down lately. That beats the stock market all to sheit! I remember David saying there were bright finishes and flat finishes like these two represent but I don't remember the particulars. The flat finish on the PE is perfect for my taste. Any of you boys back east close to the factory know how this PE wood might have made it's way to the market since it belonged to a numbered rifle?

I think John Allen told me that the DE's were available with flat or high gloss finishes. My 284 DE has a high gloss finish. My two PE's are flat. I prefer the flat. As far as I know all the CE's had the same finish. David

Extra pics much appreciated. Those are a couple of gorgeous guns, not to mention the others you posted. I guess its a sad sacrifice for the PE, but it's the right move. Maybe you'll find a set worthy of gracing the F. After all, pressed checkering really doesn't belong on an M99.

You oughta see the CE with really dark EG wood on it. Wooooooweeeee.
