Waiting on the brown truck to deliver my M77 with it's new Douglas barrel in .257 Roberts. Original wa sgreat with varmint bullets, but marginal for heavys.
Thinking about the Savage switch deal.

Yes I have read the commentary on the M50's triggers where they are attached to the stock. To be frank I have not looked at one close and we have had a M51 for 55 years. I am going to take this stock off however and examine it.

CAS,

What action is that 416 on? Might as well tell us the magazine details and the barrel as well etc.

Right now I have a 9.3x62 being built on a C. daly receiver. 20", fajen stock and iron sights. Gonna be my thrash around, hiking gun. Unfortunately its gonna have one of those god awful muzzle brakes on it so the wife can shoot it. Luckily its gonna have a cap so I can take it off.

I also have a BRNO action that might just have to become a 458winny. Not sure on that one yet.

Don,

That is a Vektor Magnum Mauser action, originally designed for the 416 Rigby. The barrel is a Pac-Nor, and is getting turned down from it's current sewer pipe contour (.850 at the muzzle).

I got a pretty good deal on the action since the dovetails had been cut in the square bridges. The smith doing the work is going to fill the dovetails and bring it back to it's original condition.

It'll be complete with a Leupold 1.5-5 scope in claw mounts.

Looking for a donor action now.

Don

Don, that sounds like a "Big Stick Special". You are not going to add a "Jolly Roger" I hope.

My project for this year is a new barrel on my Win 70 classic. Somebody told me the 264 wouldn't eat my barrel.....sheesh. Guess I am just gullible.

Also want to add a peashooter to the stable as the grandkids are almost big enough to start pulling triggers. Was thinking a Savage 93 HMR with the thumbhole laminate and accu-trigger.

But with the price of HMR ammo 20 cents a round, I am considering a 77-22 Hornet instead.

CAS you are lucky, where did you find the Vektor, don't see them much anymore. When you do they are pricey, last one I saw the guy wanted $2500.

I have a "left-hand" winchester M-70 'stainless action. I am considering a pac-nor or L-W barrel in either 25-06 or 338-06.

Will be set in a michey stock with a leopold III in 3.5X10 BC.

BMT-when you're looking at the .22's for the young fella take a hard look at the CZ Scout. Its stock is a bit longer than some of the starter .22's and it has a unique clip system that allows it to be used a single shooter at first. And then when you want you can just insert a repeater clip and Jr can start having multiple shots available.

IMO the best starter and or petite ladies .22 out there.

Get em shooting young.

[quote=CAS]I've got both a 257 WBY and 270 WBY on Model 70 actions in the works. Will be converting a couple of Remington KS Mtn Rifle stocks to use on the projects. They should both be done within a couple months.

just sent off a check for an 8 twist, #3 Broughton to do another 223AI. Specs yet to be determined.

Got this 416 Rigby due to be done sometime in August:

If I can find the right action, I will be starting a 257 Roberts using this blank:

CAS- those are some very nice sticks! I thought you'd said you were gonna use the one for a 338/06.....grins

Serious keep us in the loop how the 416 comes out.

I found a gunsmith who had it. He mentioned it in passing, and I hemmed and hawed for a couple months until he finally dropped the price enough to make it an easy decision.

I also happen to know where another is, too. If the other had not already been drilled and tapped for a peep sight, I would have gotten that one as well.

Another one will be getting my Son set up with "his" Bob for his first deer hunt this fall! smile
