How many of you have bought an item for sale in the 24HR Campfire classifieds just because it was too good of a deal to pass up? You didn't need it, have a use for it, already had one, or particularly wanted it but you just could not pass it up!

Actually, I go the other way and refrain. Then, later, I kick myself for not jumping on a good deal.

+1 - Yes, plenty of times. I may not need it (at least, right now), but chances are I know someone who can use it, so I offer it to them.

I've never even been to the classified section. As to un-needed implements, I probably have around 15 arms and maybe 20 fishing rods that I could do without.

Not always.

I've bought a couple of things I didn't really need. But I knew the seller needed the money, and was in a tight spot.

Been known to send a bit extra as well.

FB, I can be as greedy as the next guy.

If I see something I want, or need to sell something, I do it. It's just not an obsession.

I rarely go to the classifieds. It's probably a good thing that I am not a regular because I am going broke saving money as it is. When I do go to the classifieds, I rarely see "can't pass it up" kind of deals. I often see used stuff selling for more than I can buy it for used. Case in point. The Meopta ad. I just bought a brand new Cabelas Meopta for $100 less than the exact used model is being sold for in our classifieds.

I have, sometimes because it was a good deal, and sometimes because I find something I really want but it isn't made anymore.

Like this morning when I found and bought a Schrade 158OT "Guthook Skinner" from BB3 in the classifieds. Made in the USA, which would mean it was made at the Schrade plant on Route 209 in Ellenville NY, which I passed numerous times as a kid/young man heading upstate deer hunting/scouting over the years. Always wanted one, and suddenly the plant closed and whatever Schrade was making was not what it used to be. I know I'm old school, made in the USA really means something to me.

I do it all the time with brass & bullets. It is part of my retirement plan I call my 401(G). Last item I purchased was 270 count Hornady .227 bullets for reloading .22 Savage Hi-Power. I have more rifle brass and bullets than I will ever use but once I am retired and have more time, I will only need money for gas & range fees. It's a good feeling knowing it is on the shelf whenever I want to get started. No buyers remorse here!

I shoot a weekly bowling pin match now and want to get involved in more activities like steel challenge. I recently did a quick inventory of bullets, brass, primers, & powder and concluded that I have enough 9mm supplies to shoot 50 rounds per week for the next 30 years.

It’s happened. Often remind myself that have more chit than time as it is already, though. The thrill of the buy, i suppose; try to stay away from that. Plus the thrill of trying to keep a clear walkway thru my shop isn’t worth it!

One of life's lessons usually learned the hard way is that a guy can go broke getting bargains. Years ago I quit buying stuff just because it was a helluva deal.

I have, however, bought a few things just to keep someone else from getting it. laugh

Curiosity gets me. I like to try different stuff and evaluate it. Not so bad when it's something I've been considering for a while and I find something I've been thinking about in the classifieds....it's the off the cuff, unplanned purchases that I need to avoid!

Most of the above - firearms, scopes, knives, brass, etc. Have never really needed any of it, but always had a use for it, and some just because I wanted it...

It was hard making the decision while talking to the guy, had the money.... what stopped me was I had bought a glock 24 the day before.... don't know who got it , but they got a heck of a deal on that rifle. So I'm buying a turkey gun tomorrow insted.

I've never even looked at the classifieds, and I've been a member here for 11 years? Read too many horror stories about deals gone bad, I suppose?

Research the seller. Know where he posts on the forum. The classified cowboys will be like 90% classified for sale posters.
These are the hondlers that will hang it in your ass if given half a chance.

That thought has occurred to me. If I were ever to do business here, it would be with 'long-time' members.

I've purchased plenty of scopes with the idea that sooner or later they'll have a home.

I've directed quite a few friends to stuff they were looking for, mostly guns and optics.

Nabbed a few knives made by Gene and Charlie rather than waiting my turn.

If you're into stuff they no longer make, like say New Haven M-70's, you have to find them where they are. The only way to do that is to look.

I've bought a few guns, because I got a good deal on a scope and hated to see it sitting on the shelf all by itself....
