Someone had posted that graph on the Sniper's Hide years ago. I thought it was great, had to save it.

The 215gr Berger works in the 308 too. Even in a 1/12 twist.

What speed are you getting with the 208 AMAX in the 308

I'm getting 2580 fps in the 20.5" bbl, and 2600 fps in the 22". Measured with the Magnetospeed chrono.

That's with a non-coated bullet, milsurp brass, 48.0 gr RL17, and 3.08" oal. This works in my Remington factory barrels with long throats.

Start low and work up.

I can’t get a ballistic program that shows the 208 at 2580 to drop anywhere close to a Hornady 140 grain 6.5 at 2800

I've been looking at it myself since it comes in LH also.

Both my son and I have the 20" version. Yes, they are incredibly accurate rifles. Get the replacement 4 round mags. They make for a much nicer handling rifle, both on the bench and hunting with it.

If he's serious about long range, get the 24" version. Another 100fps is always a good thing.

I don't know what the velocity was on oregontrippers ammo. He was a mil or so flatter than me at about 1000 yards, but at 1800 they were within 1 mil of each other as the slightly higher BC of the 208 played there.

It was a couple years ago we shot together. I was dialing 24.0 mils at 1800, and he was right there with me give or take a couple tenths.

For the record, I don't have a 6.5 Creedmoor, but I think it is one of the best new rounds to come out since I've been shooting.

I was looking hard at the Ruger American Predator LH in 6.5 Creed, but haven't pulled the trigger on one. Could happen though.

The 308 generally gets compared on the basis of 168gr FGMM, and I understand why, but that is really sandbagging the 308.

Shane, you should do another graph with an 'invisible transonic barrier', just like that one.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the 308 goes transonic at around 300 yards, with any load......grin

You shoot 140's at 2,800 from your 6.5 creedmoor?

I proposed the Tikka CTR (different mags, I know), or the Howa 1500 (still different mags, but not too expensive), the Bergara HMR or?

Any suggestions?

Sounds like he has decided to go with the .308 caliber.

If I could only buy one rifle to shoot in that caliber, I would start with a Remington 700 5r milspec. in .308

I would change the trigger, thread the barrel, change bottom metal, to get the rifle he wants. With the right ammo. 600yds - 1000yds is not an issue with sound long range shooting fundamentals.

Bud's Guns has them for $802 shipped.

That's a rifle that will last a lifetime for hunting and long range shooting. He can always get his investment back on that rifle.

After 1000's of .308 rounds, mostly all reloads after my first long range shoot, I could have bought 6.5-284 Norma ammo for $55.00 a box? No wonder all the other shooters offered me a special trophy as the lonely .308 shooter. They gathered at the end of the day in wonder of the older fellow that won cold bore matches in the AM at 600, 800, and on one special day at 1208yds, unknown distance. They whispered amongst
their selves "he did that with a .308"

In full disclosure I did cave in somewhat and put together a .300WinMag. with a McGowan barrel, Stockade stock, unfired Savage Long action made in 92' [hell of a find], custom made bottom metal that takes AICS mags, bedded the action, etc.
That rifle has taken some of the sting out of being labeled the .308 guy, and those reloads are maybe .90cents each.
The surprise was on the younger guys faces when the this rifle yielded the same results at the end of the day.

Anyone with a 223/5.56 that has a similar trajectory?
