I have to keep my forearm bolt tight. If not it will show in accuracy. I have a 300 win mag stainless and laminated stock. Most accurate rifle I have ever owned for hunting. Only draw back for me now is the weight, very heavy.

Just tell all your friends it shoots 1/2" groups at 100 yards, spend the extra cash on ammo. No animal will know if it was killed by a sub-MOA rifle or a 1.5 MOA rifle. In hunting situations, YOU will be the weak link, not the rifle, unless it shoots patterns instead of groups. In that case, sell it to someone you don't like.

Bravo +10 !!!!

Unless you're hunting tiny varmints at long range a 2 MOA rifle will kill everything an ethical hunter would shoot at. 2 MOA is only ONE moa off the POA.

BTW, yet to meet a No. 1 that won't shoot 1 MOA if the loads are correct.

If you have one that won't (for you) send it along. If I can't put 5 in 1 MOA, I'll buy it for $1200. After I do, I'll give you $600 for it.
(For 375s, 416, 45-70s and 458s, only 3 shots.)

Bought an ancient red pad 1B Swift recently, the ones with the horrible barrels we all know about, decoppered it, slapped a Unertl Condor on it, dug out some pulled no name bullets, grabbed a 22-250 load off the Varget can and shot it. One fouler into the berm.

Save your money to buy another No. 1 ! grin

Old Roo, I love this question! I ran 1B's in -06 for 20 years. Last one I owned prolly -04.. Would love to pack a 1A. But damn it then lever's start to drop if you fart. I don't remember the levers dropping at ease when I ran the 1B's.

Can't comment as all of mine, except the 9.3x74 and 450-400 (both restocked w/redpad wood) are ancient. My only 1A, a 7x57 is a red pad and works perfectly.

I had a 1B in .223 that drove me crazy. I DID have all the tricks that my smith knew about done to it. Worst part was that on a given day it might group well --- but you never knew where the group was going to impact the target. In "The Old Days" there were smiths placing ads in Gun mags "I specialize in No. 1s". My smith (can't recall his name) was one of those.

My 1B 30-06 was shooting 2.5" groups. I completely floated barrel and bedded forend to receiver area and around screw. Now she is lovely at .5 moa with handloads and around 1" with most factory loads.
I tighten screw to 10 in. LBs. with torque driver.

7mmRM the perfect North American cartridge!
