I remember last time it happened. The feds tried to say the federal lands were closed, and everyone told them to GF themselves. There was no enforcement. laugh grin

Except for the military (including Veterans Hospitals) and border control, I see no immediate need for the federal government. Shut down any and all aid to illegals, and they'll scurry back south to cucaracha-land.

But they (congress) still gets paid.

Everyone gets paid in the end. No one loses any money.

Understand. But they and their staffs should not receive paychecks during the shutdown.

The last shut down the feds kicked everyone out of the National Parks. Made them leave. Locked the gates. WTF We are supposed to own those lands. If gov shut down they are out of a job and should go home.

But the park enforcement officers were "essential" and stayed on the job.

I can't wait. Bring it on. Shut down the whole f-ing thing. Eventually the states will pick up the slack on what's important.

The thought of those damn swamp rats swilling $10 a cup coffee and eating $40 apiece doughnuts on my dime irks the snot out of me. I hope they choke.

My Dad told me when I was all of 4 years old that Social Security was never going to pay out, and to never expect a dime back.

A good summary from an insider.

Of all the people who do what I do on the Gulf Coast, I have historically turned in the best numbers by far. I don't say that to toot my own horn but to set the stage for my overarching point. My job is highly independent. I work alone and rarely see the person who is my supervisor. Most of my job take proactive rather than reactive/response effort. I take my duty as a public servant seriously. I want to give the taxpayers and the people I serve the very best I can give them for their tax dollars. I always will, no matter how much I am used as a political pawn by our dysfunctional congress. But there are others who will abandon their loyalty over this. The government management model and organizational construct produces mediocrity as it is. They can ill afford to have disloyal, dispassionate employees who don't feel a sense of importance or belonging. Morale is important. These shutdowns have a productivity cost that cannot be measured. There are good people who will reach their fill over this and become the type who will do as little as possible for their paycheck. Why bust their balls for an ungrateful employer and an often ungrateful public. I have seen it happen.

The shutdown threat is a political stunt, as is a "true shutdown", which is a misnomer. The TSA, FAA, etc will continue to function, although with great publicity to make it obvious how valuable their particular service is for safety.

Who can we blame for this mess? Everyone looks for a scapegoat or a vague cause to create attention. The federal spending continues to spiral out of control.

The federal workers who are "essential" will continue to go to work and will be paid. The "non-essential" employees will be at home. When the "shutdown" ends they will be paid as if they had been working at their "non-essential" job.

Unfortunately there are a large number of governmental employees who "do as little as possible for their paycheck" and damned few who "take my duty as a public servant seriously. I want to give the taxpayers and the people I serve the very best I can give them for their tax dollars. I always will, no matter how much I am used as a political pawn by our dysfunctional congress."

Thanks, Paul, for your dedication and service.

After all this furor is past everyone will again forget that OUR federal government is spending way too much on things that are not important and employing many people who do not have the interests of the tax-payer on their front burner.

I had a federal game warden kick me off federal land while duck hunting during the Gingrich shutdown. We left that time but we’re going back to hunt the same area next week and all four of us said that we WILL NOT be kicked off OUR land by those we pay to be stewards of the land, they don’t own it nor can they hold us hostage to it because of a labor dispute or lack of funding on their part. If they’re on duty enough to kick us off they’re capable of doing their job of managing it for the public.

We will tell them to FAWK OFF and go back to hunting. Could be fun to throw the SOB in handcuffs and a citizens arrest for interfering with lawful hunting activities and run him to the local PD who IS legally on duty. Dreaming of course but we will NOT be leaving our federal lands. The Feds merely manage those lands for us and for OUR benefit. I’m older, wiser and less prone to being pushed around by badge heavy douchebags that aren’t even on duty. Fuggem because we ain’t following their unlawful and unconstitutional “orders”. I hope it doesn’t come to that because between us they’ll be under matched and we’re willing to take it as far as they push it.

Government is the mafia. They threaten to burn down your business if you don't pay, and they will. They're all criminals.

The reason all that was done was Obama wanted to make it has hard as he could on the people and then blame the Republicans. Mick Mulvane has said that will not happen this time.
