I have had 270’s with 1-8 (one), 1-9 (three), 1-9.25 (two). The nine’s seemed about right to me.

Would never buy a 1-10 if getting a custom barrel.

I’m very surprised how well they’ve been shooting for me.

The Matrix or ABLR? I got the ABLR bullets to shoot in my M70 EW, but then I read Litz's report on actual BC numbers with the 1:10 twist. They've been accurate enough in my rifle out to 300 yards, but haven't got the MV I want yet. Nor have I gone past 300 with the bullets yet. So I've been thinking of ordering a new 1:9 twist barrel for my EW or trying to find a M70 Classic Stainless in .270 WSM to put a 1:9 twist barrel on. I'm leaning the WSM route more and more.

The ABLR.

I’ve got a 270 WSM I pretty much just shoot 150 Partitions and BBCs out of. Always wanted to put a great barrel on that rifle to really turn the BBCs.

I think the extra speed of the WSM helps the ABLR.

BobinNH and his shooting buds put together many 1:9 and 1:8 270's because they found that spinning bullets a bit faster did have a noticeable effect when it came to killing. Given Bob's experience in this regard, I'd tend to believe him, but I've also found evidence for this theory in my own experience. Rotational velocity is going to affect how a bullet flies, and how a bullet acts when it strikes game.

I'd love it if manufacturers started making all sub-30's in 1:8 twists. Modern bullets don't suffer when spun faster, and many will shoot better, because they are only marginally stabilized in std twists.

I ran the numbers, and the Berger 170 in a std 270 1:10 should still shoot at typical mountain hunting altitude in the west, but it will lose 4-5% of its efficiency. The same with the Nosler 150 ABLR-- it also needs a little more spin to reach its peak efficiency. Both of these bullets should still shoot accurately above 4000ft altitude. SHOULD. I've not tested either.

Here is the updated b.c. for the 150gr 277 ABLR, Nosler had the whole line tested recently and revised their numbers.

I want an accurate load of 150gr. ABLR to 2950-3050 ,with what ever combination I need . Maybe some Reloader 26. A 1-10" might do it, but a 1-9" would most probably do it better. I have a 270 with 1-10". Its a Remington Sendero and not the Idea walking or hiking rifle. So I'm getting another 270 in a lighter rifle. I will probably build one, but if I could find a good production rifle that would also be a possibility. Don't want a Creedmoore or 7mm-08. I want a 270.

I shoot the 150LRAB in my 1/10 twist 270. My load is 60gr RL26 at 3000fps . It is very accurate and drop matches chart to 600yds, ( far as I have tested it)

My elevation is 4000' + I am sure that helps stability. My next 270 will have a 1/9 twist, that should be optimum.

I live at 4000 ft as well, I need to get some RL26. I'm not getting above 2800 fps accurately with Mag Pro, RL22, or H4831SC. The accuracy goes from MOA at 300 yards to about 2+ MOA the harder I push them.

Cannot help with the factory fast twist .270's. Last .270 barrel I ordered from Lilja is a 1:8" twist. Have not made the time to play with heavies yet. But no observable negative impact with 130gr bullets. Have 150gr (170gr?) Bergers, 160 NPT's, 170gr Speer RN, and 180gr Woodleighs. In back of my mind wanted to see if I could find MOA accurate loads from 85gr TSX's up thru the 180gr Woodleighs. But ended up with a case plus of Nosler Trophy Grade 130gr NAB's for a good price. Will shoot those until work-life balance improves to the point of being able to make time to reload...

It certainly wouldn't hurt to contact them and find out if they are a 1 in 8.6 for those wanting something faster than a 1 in 10.

Dang, that's a smoking deal. They're about as oogly as a rifle can get, but are apparently really fine ones with good features. Need another rifle (even a .270) about as much a another winky, but if they're still around after the IRS dust cloud settles something might happen.

I sent Steyr an E-mail. If I don't get a response anytime soon I'll try calling.

I would be curious to see what Steyr says, would be a great selling feature for them if they still make them in the 8.6 twist.

I think if you go to Blazer Buds they have the Steyr twist rate there.

Gerry,
Now that's interesting. I've heard that Noslers numbers for the LRAB BCs had some "blue sky'" in them?

I think they were slow to get on board with the new technology more than anything else. I really want to give the 150's a whirl soon.

RL26, CCIBR2’s and the 150 ABLR are an easy 3000 or better combo. 1-10 twist here as well, at danged near sea level.
