Sharing with keen hunters and outdoorsmen/women as i hope it resonates. The words came to me on the last week and i couldn't scribble them down fast enough. Haven't written a poem in years - gotta be from the heart for me to write anything these days https://youtu.be/fMV9VMsgU4s

I think that just about sums it up.
NZ certainly does have some steep places.
Beautiful too!

Do you mountain hunters do lots of leg work to get your legs in shape?
We used to go sking every year, I ran, used the stepper until I could make an hour without stopping. I didn’t let the others know, they were all ten years younger than me, but I could have them begging to stop. That was fun! For me anyway.😁
I had my ass in shape before two a days too. Wind sprints at the end of practice weren’t nothing.

Thank you for sharing that. It touched a place in me and brings a flood of great memories.

Yeah you raise a good point hanco. I do a mixture of strength endurance and high interval training but the best training, if at all possible, is to actually climb mountains (something i unfortunately dont have access to now that i am working and living in perth, australia)
I'm only 34 years old now and still in pretty good shape but i know for a fact I have nothing on my early twenties self in terms of hill fitness. Shesh, when i was at uni and an extremely active hunter, i was clambering the alps on a week in and week out basis... now i am lucky to get out once or twice a year for a big mountains trip.
In fact my biggest hunting trip to date was walking (no 4wd or bikes or horses!!) 187km over 14 days backpacking into the southern alps with true hunting companion andre alipate. We took some fine animals and cherish the memories. Only he and i can truly relate to what we experienced. I must dig out the old archive footage. I lost 11kg of lean muscle and andre lost 9kg!
Thanks Ed - Im pleased it brought back memories. Some of my most memorable moments in life come from those special times climbing and sidling!
One day ill move the family back to new zealand and rekindle those embers !!
Woul love to get over to alaska, canada and montana to check out your amazing neck of the woods
Cheers MM
